Things I should see/do in Ottawa this summer...
tokan replied to Nathalie L's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
If you like BBQ, especially chicken and ribs, than you should check out the International Chicken & Rib cook-off at the sparks street mall June 20-24. They have ribbers from Canada and the U.S. come in to compete for the best ribs, chicken, and sauce. If you like chicken and ribs but have never been to a ribfest it is definitely a must. I've tried ribs in a lot of different restaurants and very very few come close to these guys ribs. Pulled pork is also really good. And even if you don't go for the food sparks street mall in the summer is pretty nice. On a side note Brockville has a ribfest each summer in august, for big brothers and sisters, and most of the same guys that go to sparks street come here. So you have two, well actually three cause there is a ribfest in Kemptville this weekend. I guess I should probably admit here that I'm a rib-aholic, lol. When there done right ribs really are hard to beat :) -

I guess you could say that my zombie apocalypse plan could double as my doomsday plan, lol. I do have a bunch of canned goods and non-perishable items stocked in the pantry, as well as a bunch of water, so should be good to last a couple days at least. Should be enough time to row out to one of the islands in the St. Lawrence, camp out, and do some fishing while there. Might as well enjoy the apocalypse, lol.

I guess you could also call me a heat zombie. When the temperature starts getting north of 30 C I tend to move slower...if at all, lol. The worst was my last place in Ottawa. I think it was an attic that had been converted into an apartment and that place was just scorching in the summer. Had to walk around almost naked...almost ;) just to stay cool, lol. One thing that I find helps is going for a swim, whether it's a pool, the river, or a lake, or whatever. I just find it tends to cool you right to the core and I tend to feel refreshed for a while afterwards regardless of the heat. And like Finn said some herbal remedies can help too. I know when it's humid out my allergies go a little haywire cause mould loves humidity so it could be allergy related too.

Welcome Maria to the wonderful world of CERB :) It certainly is a unique place on the Internet where people can share opinions and ideas without fear of negative feedback. This is one of the reasons that I have come to love the site along with the people that make it such a special place. I hope your experience here will be as enjoyable as mine has been so far :)

I know this isn't exactly related to the usual news posted here but something that I think is very interesting. Very rarely do we get to see the inner workings or parliament at work and considering how controversial the omnibus bill has been it will be interesting to see what happens. Fight over budget bill returns to House of Commons By Max Paris, CBC News Posted: Jun 10, 2012 9:53 PM ET Last Updated: Jun 10, 2012 10:13 PM ET Members of Parliament are hunkering down for a stormy week of procedural delays as the government's omnibus Budget Implementation Act arrives back in the House of Commons for its third and final reading. Opposition parties are planning to introduce hundreds of deletions and changes to Bill C-38 in a last ditch effort to get the Conservatives to split it into a number of smaller bills. "Any reasonable, conscientious member of Parliament who looks at this horrible bill is going to want to put together amendments that fix it," said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. "If all my amendments pass," she added, "C-38 won't destroy the environment." A Commons confrontation has been brewing for weeks as the massive, 450-page bill made its way through the parliamentary process. Nearly one-third of the Budget Implementation Act deals with changes to existing environmental legislation. It includes a new Environmental Assessment Act along with important changes to the Fisheries Act, the Species at Risk Act and the National Energy Board Act. The government struck a special sub-committee to examine the many reforms to environmental policies that the bill contains. The bill underwent no changes in committee, and now opposition MPs say they plan to resort to procedural tricks in order to modify it. "We're trying to, of course, alert Canadians to the fact that what the government is doing is outrageous," said Liberal Party House leader Marc Garneau. The Liberals and NDP can only propose the deletion of clauses from Bill C-38. But independent MPs can re-write parts of the bill, so the Liberals are working with May to propose over 300 substantive changes to the bill. "We believe that the amendments that she is bringing forward are good amendments," Garneau said. Clock ticking on government agenda But government House leader Peter Van Loan charged that opposition MPs are trying to stop the bill from becoming law. "The opposition aren't looking to change this. Let's be frank â?? they're looking to stop it, to delay it, to obstruct it," he said. "They've made that clear all the way through." Van Loan said the government wants the bill to pass before the House rises for the summer at the end of June. However, hundreds of votes may need to be held before the bill passes third reading, if opposition MPs push ahead with their plan. The Speaker of the House could omit many of the amendments and group the remaining ones together for a single vote. He is expected to rule Monday on the matter, and while that could shrink the number of votes, members would still need to spend an uncomfortably long time in the House of Commons to deal with the remaining ones. The NDP also said the proposed changes will amount to votes of confidence, and if for some reason the Conservatives don't have enough members in the House there's a risk the government could fall. "The government has actually tied the noose around their own neck," said NDP House leader Nathan Cullen. "I mean, this is entirely of their own design and from the beginning we warned the government that this day was coming." May said she wishes there was a way to avoid the parliamentary confrontation. "The whole thing is going to be grim," she said. "And the essence of it is, I feel like I'm taking all my friends hostage." I had no idea that cat food was so bad for dogs, but it makes sense. Just like how we have to be careful that dogs don't eat certain human food like chocolate or raisins. Although funny story, one of our dogs years ago got into some chocolate covered nuts. Ate all the chocolate but left a neat little pile of nuts, like she placed them there on purpose. When we got home and saw what she did we kept an eye on her to make sure she was ok, but she ended up being fine. They were milk chocolate though, so that may have made the difference.

Now that you mention it Loopie I'm kind of curious as to what was left on the cutting room floor and what the directors cut will look like. I know the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven definitely improved the film, and of course who can forget Blade Runner where the theatrical cut and the directors cut were very different. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.
