How do you handle Worry and Stress
kerrixoxo replied to someguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I agree it depends on the source of stress. Most of the time running or walking works. I also enjoy writing (or making art) and reading. Anything to take my mind off the source of stress. And sometimes a little solo session with a nap to follow and some netflix also does the trick ;) -

Oppal also stated that the criminal regulation of prostitution contributes to the marginalization of women. I wonder if Harper would ever respond to that! Also, this article is very, very, VERY misleading. The inquiry was rejected by the families and many groups affected by the inquiry. These responses also fail to acknowledge or consult with special interest groups and/or families of these women...unless of course they support the criminalization of sex work. Funny how that works. And check out this post by a criminal defense lawyer: "Buried deep within the new bill is an amendment to the Criminal Code that would allow anonymous evidence to be introduced in court, limit disclosure of information to an accused, and curtail cross examination. In short the Victims Bill of Right creates a made-in-Canada Star Chamber (Note: the Star Chamber was a secret court - abolished in 1641 - used as a political weapon which became synonymous with abuse of power)" (http://www.michaelspratt.com/law-blog/victims-bill-of-rights-the-poison-pill) Can Harper just stop already? Grrrrr

The issue that I have with the Original poster is that he mentions "restorative approach" to work with the women affected/targeted. Some of these women had no idea they were being targeted. And even if they did find out, part of the restorative justice approach is ensuring the victim's interests are protected without being harmed. How do we know that these women would be negatively affected through participation? From a public perspective, the school has a lot to lose by not suspending even in the interim the men involved. And no comparing what women say about men is not comparable as the effects are not the same; effects like misogyny which contribute to violence against women (like rape!). All of this considering the larger narrative of how these comments affect women's rights. Considering the men's interests, I think some sort of shaming/public apology which is informed by the effects of their actions would have been helpful. They don't lose out on their education but still receive some sort of punishment. Suspension doesn't really address the issue as to how their actions hurt the school community and women--this isn't an isolated incident occurring on one campus.

If They Passed a Law and Nobody ........

Yes, the REAL women press release (as seen on Justin ling's twitter) was hilarious. REAL women press release goal: use as much odious adjectives as possible while also criticizing how democracy works....cause c-36 supporters are experts in democracy, the Charter/constitution. -

The general rule is no news is good news. If they have your contact information, then they can call you if something is up. If you did not give contact information, it's best to call back.

Seeking legal advice
kerrixoxo replied to Greenly's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Bawdy houses are still criminal. Just an FYI. In only very limited contexts are they not criminal. So you've already received wrong advice. This is a two way street: both you and the provider carry a risk. Some of these risks can be reduced or mitigated by following advice that is posted else where on this board. You don't want to get caught seeing a provider? Don't do anything out of the ordinary if you never been caught now. And most certainly don't do anything stupid. And to squirtingmilf's point: 100% these laws put much more risk onto the provider. Like they said at senate, the goal isn't to make them safer or protect providers, it's to make it so horrible that nobody wants to do it. And judging by your fears and many others, they have succeeded. Xo -
Seeking legal advice

If an sp admits to being paid for sexual services, then she admits to also committing criminal activity (advertising, bawdy house). I don't see how or why an sp would admit to that. I understand your fears given the messages being disseminated in the media. But I highly doubt someone like Angela has said who is reputable will set herself up to be put in such a situation. I also think the idea of being surveilled or monitored is essentially the type of fear this new law is meant to instill to prevent these activities from taking place. Remember unless you are being obvious or taking risks to put yourself on police radar, then the scenarios you imagined could happen. You can think of any scenario all you want and instill the fear (which is legitimate) any which way you want. But if you aren't following any of the tips Angela raised and taking some risks, then yes all the scenarios you imagine might happen. Just follow the notes Angela and many others raised. Xo -
That's *how* clients are verified: people know them or they are arrested. All arrests are public knowledge. If a provider says she saw you in the public or media, nobody cares unless you are Harper or MacKay. ;) And as others have noted, it's not very professional to out a client and a reputable lady wouldn't do such a thing.
-
Politicians are ID'd because people *know* who they are and they are usually arrested in the process. It has nothing to do with looks or seaman (lol) or outing by sex workers. Also, everything you are doing: seeing reputable ladies, following screening, etc. isn't going to get you arrested or outed.
-
If you are worried about outing: unless you are Harper or MacKay, nobody cares about you (Note: This isn't an endorsement to out clients. But that's the reality. Who was the Alberta MP arrested for prostitution in the states again? If you remember his name, I congratulate you). Thank you Nicole for calling out the fear mongering. Just remember to be polite and nice before, during, and after your encounters and you won't have to worry about being on a bad date list! Besides, these are safety tools and if the police force a sex worker to hand over this information to avoid arrest, it just speaks volumes to the dangers involved with c-36 and it doesn't help the argument supporting the Bill. It provides support AGAINST the Bill. As I like to say, do good and be good!
