  1. Nice responses, all. One of reasons I find this thought experiment fun is that it's interesting to see the different perspectives people come at it from. On one hand, it's interesting how many people feel there are no possible odds good enough that they would risk their life for the million bucks. And yet, as roamingguy suggested, we already take much greater risks everyday for less without giving it a second thought. I mean, presumably if you wouldn't risk 1 in a billion odds for a million dollars, you would also say no if the proposal was a European vacation but the odds of death are 1 in 11 million. And yet the odds of dying in a plane crash are generally put at 1 in 11 million and we fly for pleasure all the time. Heck, we increase our chances of dying whenever we drive out to the corner store when the reward being offered is a bag of chips. On the other hand, there seems to be something about the directness of this particular proposal that puts many people off. Perhaps it's because the offer is so unrealistic and outside of everyday life (unlike flying on a plane or driving to the store) that the risk seems unnecessary in a way the others aren't, or that's it's putting money over the value of life.
  2. The snow I don't mind so much. It can be lovely when it's falling, though I don't think it's so nice to look at when it's been down a while and gotten all dirty and sludgy from cars, etc. However, I'm a boy of summer and hate being cold. You'll never hear me complaining in August about how hot or muggy it might be because I'll always take that extreme over being cold. In the winter I don't tend to go out as much, don't exercise as much, and don't get naked as much! Perfect world to me would be if winter just lasted a month or so -- long enough to appreciate the look of it and have the right atmosphere for the holidays; maybe enjoy a couple quiet nights reading or watching movies with the fireplace going and hot chocolate at hand. But after about four weeks I'm ready for the sunshine and heat to come back!
  3. I'm sorry but when I read those last two sentences it sounds like something from a prison or mafia movie. Maybe this makes me not a real man but I can think of plenty of situations in life where everyone would have been better off had someone spoken up when they witnessed a wrongdoing. Bullying or assaults certainly come to mind. Things like that continue and cause harm so often because no one does come forward. Now, a spa attendant offering an illegal service may not be at the same level as that, of course, but they are still putting their coworkers, visitors, and owners of the premise at great risk, without their knowledge. If they were doing something illegal that could only hurt themselves you might argue that it was their choice and should be left to them. But in this case if others acting in good faith end up arrested or closed down because someone else was being "a real man" I don't think they'll thank anyone.
  4. The suggestion that it is nice to chat about life with her a bit is a nice share. But it might be better to leave out the fact that she offered more than your initial arrangement, as that's probably very much a YMMV kinda thing. There's an unintended risk when sharing such details that other fellows may assume they should or will get the same offer, which I imagine can be an annoyance for the lady to say the least. Anyway, just a quick thought. I don't want to hijack the thread.
  5. This is just a fun little thought experiment: Suppose you were offered a chance at a million dollars, but in accepting it there is a small, random chance of...death! The question is, what level of risk or odds would you be willing to accept? Would you take the million if the risk of dying was 1 in 10? How about 1 in a 1000? One in a million? Or do you think that no matter how miniscule the risk you'd deem it too dangerous and walk away?
  6. Hmm, I wouldn't say I'm an overly confident person in general, but I do try to do my job well and I think it's shown over time. Same thing with hobbies. So I wouldn't say that I go around promoting myself but I also don't think I surprise people when I do good work on a job or activity. I'd say in terms of being vocal it comes down more to when I feel passionate about something. There are topics and projects that are important to me, and that I feel I've got a good understanding on, so when those come up I tend to speak up. But that's more about me eagerly trying to explain a concept or issue that I feel I'm knowledgeable on as opposed to boasting about talents, I suppose.
  7. Hmm, I keep going back and forth on this one. I do like cuddling, always have, and find it a great stress reliever, but speaking honestly I'm truly not sure if I would pay for that alone. I can't help but think that even if I didn't go into it wanting something more intimate, after a bit of nice cuddling I would be wanting more! This isn't to say there aren't some forms of non-sexual companionship I'd be willing to make arrangements for. Sometimes I can't find anyone to watch Game of Thrones or play some Mass Effect with. Having a lovely lady or two over to join in on some geeky shenanigans sounds like a good time to me. And yeah, I suppose if we happen to cuddle a the same time I wouldn't complain. :)
  8. I'd suggest taking a look at the entire collection of pictures here: http://www.boreddaddy.com/photos-stomach-drop/ What people will try is amazing! (with just a little crazy thrown in ;) ) Here's a couple just to get you started:
  9. A dangerous topic, as people tend to get emotionally involved, but I'll weigh in and will try to stay respectful. Intelligent design is sadly the result of a number of fallacies. I personally think, perhaps subconsciously, a lot of people believe in it because of a fear that evolution undercuts their religious beliefs, and so they latch on to this as a way of maintaining them. Now, I'm not religious myself, but I do like to point out that evolution and god are not incompatible. Evolution speaks to how life develops; it does not make a claim on its origin. Proponents of intelligent design claim that the complexity of life cannot be explained by evolution. This is an assumption; there is no scientific evidence supporting it. Very often the examples provided of things that are surely too complex to have come about without a divine guiding hand are simply misunderstood. The eye is a common example used by those favouring intelligent designed. "How or why could something so complex have come about on its own? Surely it's function is too intricate and specific to have developed without a guiding hand." But they forget the eye didn't just become its current form all at once. Vision as we know it would have started as simple as something being able to sense which direction light is coming from. A feature which you can imagine would be useful and so passed on. It would only be over untold generations that it such a thing would slowly gain complexity and function and become what we know as the eye today. But even for those things we don't have clear explanations for yet are not a point in favour of intelligent design. Lack of knowledge does not equal proof of a divine hand. Throughout history anything that couldn't be readily explained was given divine cause. Whether it's saying thunder is the gods fighting or a birds wings could not have come about naturally, it amounts to about the same thing. Intelligent design is also very selective in it's examples and arguments. True science forces itself to conform to evidence. But similar to how we tend to latch on to news that supports the sports team or politician we like and ignore their flaws (ever notice how everyone always thinks the refs are biased against their team and the news against their political beliefs?), intelligent design relies on misrepresenting facts, cherry picking data, misrepresenting evolution, and ignoring valid science. It basically comes down to this: yes, it is possible there is a god behind the design of all things. Evolution makes no claim about the existence of a god. That is not what evolution is about. A person can have faith in whatever higher power they wish, but just because a person believes there is a god behind it all does not mean it should be taught or considered as science.
  10. Anybody else ever find they stay up way later than they should simply because they are too sleepy to go to bed?
  11. Signs that you've spent too much time on Cerb: You overhear a nearby person make an interesting observation and automatically yell out "thanks". Your friends notice that you've stopped complaining about bad experiences with restaurants, movies, and sporting events and only share which ones you'd recommend. When you go somewhere new you don't feel like you can be fully involved until you've said at least five things. Instead of just thinking happy thoughts your immediate reaction to seeing a picture of alluring eyes, a best bum, beautiful lingerie, an appreciated redhead, loved boobies, or awesome abs is that you better login and share it. You notice a couple people shouting at each other and warn them they should wait for more people to speak in between them or they may get in trouble. You're looking through the alphabet books in a bookstore and think the theme or word choices are very boring. Your boss sends you 100 emails and you automatically congratulate them on their contributions. Someone complains that they weren't allowed into an event and your first thought is to ask them about their hygiene. When watching the Lord of the Rings, the Eye of Sauron reminds you a little of MOD (err...only in the look of the avatar, not the whole personality of ultimate evil thing...) Hmm, did I miss any? :)
  12. I haven't had the pleasure to do so with an SP before, but it is most certainly on my wish list. I did have a girlfriend who I had a lot of fun with in this, both being the one uncuffed and the one restrained. I found both sides of it extremely erotic. We had a velcro kit, something like that pictured below. It was easy to put on and take off (if you just want the illusion of being bound, you don't have to attach it very much), and you had some control over how much slack to allow. The experience can be as sensual, teasing, or passionate as the couple enjoys, and I'd recommend anyone give it a try!
  13. Got a couple good laughs from this new Foot Locker one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqSnozW9IJM Gotta wonder how much they had to pay the celebrities for this one!
  14. An impressive video indeed. But this follow-up may be even better: http://ca.movies.yahoo.com/blogs/wide-screen/channing-tatum-parodies-van-damme-epic-splits-video-170024542.html :icon_lol:
