I found "The Theory of Everything" to be quite astonishing. It's about Professor Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane. There were so many nuances, both emotional and physical, which the actors had to convey in order to bring the humanity of the story alive with sincerity. Not all of it could've been scripted. This is storytelling at its best. Not overacted but, very passionate. In particular the people here at CERB are likely to really appreciate this movie, because SPs and clients understand and work with the passion and pain of being human. Eddie Redmayne, who plays Professor Hawking, is remarkable. We see Hawking before the onset of Lou Gehrig's disease, through the beginning and up to the present-day. There are tiny little changes in his movements which are utterly imperceptible unless you are looking for them. The actor must've worked very hard with Professor Hawking in order to achieve this portrayal. The same can be said for Felicity Jones who plays his wife Jane. Indeed, it is likely that a documentary about the making of this movie would be similarly captivating. It is being quite a while since I've seen a movie like this. Highly recommended. PatrickGC

I use Firefox with the NoScript add on and a variety of other utilities depending on what platform is in use at the moment. [Linux and the various varieties of Windows.] In recent releases however, as it relates to the Windows platform, Firefox does have performance issues. This has turned out to me quite something to track down, hopefully Mozilla will address this soon because it is definitely not an isolated case and on older machines can spontaneously bring the whole system to a crawl. I would remove currency and its related concepts from the world's memory. Money in itself is isn't evil, but the ideas which have grown up around it are fundamentally corrupt. So out the cosmic door these concepts would go. Talk about "Power to the People". Imagine, a world where these ideas never existed. It it would be such a fundamental shift that it is hard to conceive of. Yet, I believe we are slowly headed in this direction. Saw this video last night and I was simply astounded. For the most part this is about men's violence against women. However, this is not your usual monologue, the speaker addresses the issues from a very different angle which is both subtle and profound at the same time. It also addresses issues which affect everyone including sex workers and their clients, transgendered people, disabled persons, gays and lesbians etc. This really speaks to the core issues and behaviors of society and our individual peer groups. This is also empowering. Definitely food for thought and action. Video Synopsis: Domestic violence and sexual abuse are often called "women's issues." But in this bold, blunt talk, Jackson Katz points out that these are intrinsically men's issues -- and shows how these violent behaviors are tied to definitions of manhood. Yes, while most of the responses were respectable there were indeed a few which were downright moronic. The one that got me going was some reader stating, that if sex worked or decriminalize there would be Madams in schools recruiting teenagers. Implying that by default madams are by default somehow shady. I've posted a a response of course. However it does make one wonder just what it will take to break down this bloody stereotype. Couldn't agree more with you Emily J. and Christopher Hitchens. I was very premature and that's why no circumcision was done. Thank goodness, I like all my original equipment intact. From what I've heard it also keeps the head of the penis more sensitive and moist. It is also a misnomer that it for certain doesn't cause pain to the baby, physically or mentally. At such an early age they simply do not have the more common learned pain responses. Adults cannot think or conceive of the world in the same way an infant does. They are literally wired differently. And female circumcision is just flat-out insane. Take care, PatrickGC

"What music am I listening to right now?" Well, that's a long story... here's the abridged version for your entertainment. Eight, or so, years ago there was a marvelous radical radio station in Vancouver which played just about anything. The listener got the feeling that the disc jockeys had free reign over what was played. I loved this station for its sheer variety. Unfortunately the lack of a formal playlist did make it somewhat difficult for them to attract advertising revenue. Regardless, their audience slowly increased to the point where the mainstream stations took notice and this little rebel station was forced off the air. Ever since then, I've had a daily ritual of setting my computer to play a random two or three hour selection of music to remind me of the importance of staying open minded. Agreed Phaedrus : It is not so much the device. It is the potential for misuse of the features and services offered. There are technologies coming on stream that could potentially do the same as these glasses only on the surface of a contact lens. This is an adult not a child, and admittedly most of us including myself to find the incredible ease of use very alluring. But it is very important to consider the impact this has on everyone. The fundamental issue is: Where does one draw the line regarding freedom versus personal space? This has many ramifications, not just limited to video. Every person needs to be able to control their level of privacy. It is about being able to define a personal life. What must be guarded against is the slow erosion of privacy. We are, after all, responsible for "Big Brother". I get just a little nervous because, He has not behaved well historically. PatrickGC

That's exactly the question which people need to consider Roamingguy. Indeed what is the point of all this connectedness? I see a lot of feedback junkies out there, people who are using technology not for the potential benefits of reaching out, but rather, just to pass the time with the illusion of involvement. There is something unquantifiable about sharing an experience with another human being that is so fundamental and critical to well-being which cannot be reproduced by technology. It is my hope, that in a few years enough people well reach their technological saturation point and level off in its use. Give me a night out with a friend or a deer sex worker, candlelight, a touch of wine perhaps, is all that is needed. Humanity after all is the original and best technology. Unfortunately, you don't have to wait for Google glasses. To a lesser extent, but no less important in the discussion, are other technologies which have as intrusive potentials already on the market and are in use. How well lock down is the average smart phone? A great number of the applications that run on these devices are not well written and are exploitable. Now to be fair, most manufacturers insurer that the operating system software is protected by an "unpublished" password. That makes it somewhat more difficult but not impossible to lose information to the outside world. But I am seeing a worrying trend with the application software that people are adding to their devices, that being ease of use and popularity superseding safety and privacy. People did not seem to understand the impact of giving away a ones information or privacy anymore. One cannot be totally reliant on governmental or industry policies. To that end, if I were a service provider I would insist before hand that all wireless etc. devices be turned off or left at home. In addition if I could do so without violating the laws I would also consider local jamming equipment. This may seem an extreme step. However, I deal with technology and to some extent with security on devices and in the absence of the knowledgeable average consumer, think this would be a reasonable step. The same would go for clients. We need to help insurer that the technology we use is secure. That means becoming familiar with our devices. As things become more interconnected I think the individual must become more involved in requiring that the manufacturers of products have clearly articulated privacy and ethical standards. Apologies for the brief rant. I just cleaned a friend's computer who had their Google account compromised. No fault of Google's. It was as far as we can tell a video player application on some site which installed third-party software by default which was not secure. PatrickGC

Incredible... A hockey game taking precedence over Samantha? .. That's Unfathomable. Indeed, It's Impossible!! His "Man cold" or other male afflictions, must have knocked out his GPS. [General Penis Support] system. So many things can throw it off. Take some over-the-counter cough syrup, and the dang thing just won't start. And you can't find the kitten, nevermind play, without a fully functional GPS. It's a fact, some of this embedded technology can blow with the wind. On the other hand when the GPS is up and running and we are not distracted by the magnetic influences of sports games, it is wonderful. That's it! Maybe hockey pucks are in reality giant magnets. Designed by sports syndicates to pull our GPS systems off-track. The conspiracy is a theory no more. Upon reflection though, we were probably just led out of Africa by the hand. "Oh, those wonderful hands!".. I've lost track of what I was talking about. Never was much of a hockey fan anyway. I'll stick to the human sports where ice and padding are not needed. PatrickGC
