Pembroke used to have a lot of industries, Superior Electric, Steel Equipment, Eddy Match, the cardboard plant, two lumber mills, all those are gone. The downtown is like a ghetto. Even the Pembroke police department went bust and had to be taken over by the OPP. The Travelodge is a big place, no problem hiding there. Brandon has a large military population but there are many excellent hotels to use. I have just never seen any in Petawawa. There's quite a few abandoned ones along the old Highway 17 between Pembroke and Petawawa. Kind of sad really. Oh yeah, Pembroke vs Petawawa is a real sticky issue with the locals.

I used to live in Pembroke! I am amazed you could go there and make money, it seemed like a very depressed local economy after the loss of many local industries. Petawawa is booming by comparison with the army base. Ottawa (I have kin there) seems more like a massage parlor type town and there is fierce competition just across the river.

So called Smart TVs are several hundred dollars more expensive than their dumber siblings. All the "smart" functions can be had on most basic BluRay players. I have a Sony BluRay player which decodes Netflix, youtube, etc. It is also wi-fi enabled so I don't need to physically connect it to the cable line. Get a dumb TV and a smart BluRay player and save yourself some money. I suggest you use an HDMI cable between your disc player and your TV, or your cable box and your TV. Any cheap one will do, the super-duper gold plated ones that the TV saleman wants you to buy do NOT work better. (Read up on HDMI standards for further info). My Sony BluRay player came with a free HDMI cable. Re your original query, I have an LG LCD television. A lot of people seem to have problems with Samsungs developing dead lines on their screens. We have a couple of Samsung 47 inch monitors at work and one has this problem. I'd recommend Sharp, Sony and LG in no particular order, and like LCD the best. I will probably toss my LG 1080 out as soon as 4K source material becomes widely available.

This guy was one of those guys who seemed indestructible. He was out shovelling snow and dropped dead. My buddy's wife is now dealing with insurance and estate matters. He also told her he had a will but his lawyer says he had discussed it but never actually made one up. Using a Z10 touchscreen. Was given it when they first came out. How did you do the update? I tried to install the BB software but it won't run on my Windows 7 computer. I figured I could download it with my computer and then go from computer to phone, but it would not work. I started it via the phone once and it definitely said 2 gigs. After about fifteen minutes it had downloaded one percent. I never got to the "Install" stage.

The hotel I use does not ask for anything but my credit card. I book the room by myself and meet the girl outside. As long as she is dressed sensibly and not looking like a heat score there is no problem. For the sake of discretion there will be no mention of the hotel. Just phone around, lots of hotels have couple of rooms with whirlpools.

Twice a day I get a message from Blackberry to update my phone software. There seems to be no way to stop them sending the message and no way to opt out. The update is TWO GIGS! Not doing it, period. How do I get them to stop sending me this annoying update? Again, I am NOT downloading it so don't go there. I just want them to stop sending me the message.

HDMI cables are truly digital: they either work or don't work! None are better or worse. The fancy-cable scam makes my blood boil. Every time I hear some sales rep spout that nonsense I want to smack them.

Several US police departments have a device in their cars that will download all the info in your cellphone. And for those of you with encrypted storage...that just makes them more curious. They can tell you to open it yourself, or give them the password, or they can just seize it and examine it later. A sad state of affairs in a formerly free country.

Don't bring cellphones or computers across the border unless there is NOTHING in them related to your business. Canada Customs probably won't look at them but US Customs most likely will. They can download the entire contents for later examination, and may not tell you.

HDMI is a system, not really just a cable. It has an integrated error correction function. The quality of the wire, gold plating etc is irrelevant. HDMI cables either work or don't work. There is no such thing as a better or worse one. The whole Monster Cable scam drives me nuts. Like the other poster I see friends getting scammed by salepeople all the time. One of my friends was a manager at a Future Shop and said they could have zero margin on their TVs because they make all their money on cables and the other notorious scam: the extended warranty.
