  1. I am certain that EVERY first meeting with someone was memorable for reasons of anticipation, nerves and uncertainty. However, my FIRST meeting with anyone, ever, was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Now let's recall that this was a meeting with a woman from a world that six months previous to that I did not really know existed. What I thought I did know was based on all of the stereotypes, all of the things that I have learned over time are so very wrong. So off I go to an upscale hotel and knock on the door to her hotel room which turned out to be a suite. I find myself face to face with this beautiful woman. She is dressed to the nines and immediately after closing the door she gives me the most amazing hug and kiss. At that point I froze - and she knew it. What followed next were her first words, "You REALLY are shy, aren't you." This was followed immediately by, "Is this your first time?" Oh boy. So, we sat on the bed and much to my amazement, we talked. You see, I did not know that talking was part of the deal! Then boom, I find out that she's got one course left to finish her second degree! Then kaboom, she laughed and joked! What world had I fallen into? Certainly not the one that I had expected. And the conversation turned to flirting which led to...... I still don't know if I said more than one or two coherent sentences in the whole time that we were together. She must have thought I was such a ditz. When she closed the door as I left I hope she said to herself, "Welcome to MY world." And what a world it truly is.
  2. For all the sports fans out there today is the start of March Madness, the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Sixty four teams play a single knockout elimination seeded tournament. I have come to anticipate the tournament even though I am not a follower throughout the regular season. In years past I have witnessed so many David vs Goliath victories, astounding comebacks and just great entertainment. I believe that I enjoy the games as compared to NBA because the games are shorter and they are kids, kids that make mistakes. Emotion and momentum swings are common place and make for truly exciting basketball. TSN and CBS both carrying coverage from 1 PM (Atlantic) today. ANYBODY but DUKE! :)
  3. Unless you are a Maritimer or Atlantic Canadian, I'm really not sure that you would understand or believe just what is going on here unless you could see it. The pictures do not do justice at all when compared to the real thing. Yesterday Halifax and NS were the ones to really get hammered with 70+ cm. PEI only had in the 20 + range but the winds have shut us down yet again. The plows have not even been on the highways since suppertime yesterday and as much as it hurts mainland Canada, we cut you off again by closing the bridge. The main highways were generally open, meaning lots of places only one lane and the secondary roads have been almost impassable since Sunday and the smaller roads are blocked completely. It's been the winter of a lifetime and the scary part is that we did not have our first snow until well into January. Word is that we are looking at systems for next Sunday and then again on Tuesday! Geeze. Found this little video this morning that gives some idea. Stay safe everyone. Just for fun.
  4. Oh dear Mr Magician. Then I suppose the Leafs are out of the question. LOL Once it would have been out of the question for me, but they are a real embarrassment! Yes our dependence on goal tending concerns me. We REALLY could use another natural goal scorer. BTW. I have my Canadiens jersey all ready for the playoffs. Does not look as good on me as on Gaby, but I can only work with what I've got. :)
  5. Watching the snow continue to pile up. That homemade Mac and Cheese that I was going to make the other day, well tonight's the night. :) I broke out between storms and got that missing flour. Comfort food # 1.
  6. Alright. I will admit it. YES I AM A HABS FAN, and THAT IS A DONE DEAL. However, I also like seeing other Canadian teams in the playoffs, so I am rooting big time as well for Ottawa and Winnipeg. As much as this hurts, I also want the Leafs to do SOMETHING in the off season that will let them at least some margin of respectability. Go Habs Go.
  7. What Leprechaun wrote and that I have highlighted above goes right to the crux of the matter and of this discussion. I really do not trust much of what comes out a politicians mouth - that it is their truth or honesty. To the vast majority of politicians it is only a game. The game of winning power. When I look at pieces of legislation and I see EVERY single Conservative vote the same way and then every single Liberal and NDP member vote the opposite, I refuse to believe that they are all voting what they believe. Trained puppets do not deserve to be representing Canadians. When I watch Question Period and I see members read off of cue cards supplied by the PMO even if it has no bearing on the question, I shake my head in disbelief. Well said Boomer. It is not only the two pieces of legislation that I referred to in my original post, but in everything that they do. So much disturbs me, however it may be the fact that as you pointed out, the Conservatives totally ignore rulings of our Supreme Court, and the other parties do not jump on them for that in any significant way. You speak for me LadiesFirst with that comment. A minority or heaven forbid, a coalition, would force politicians and parties to work together rather than oppose as an automatic function. I still don't see a solution!
  8. On this snowy blustery storm day what's better than browsing the Veseys Catalogue. What does it matter if there are 15 feet of snow on my garden!
  9. As our little taste of winter continues I am sensing a touch of frustration from some of our Maritime and Atlantic ladies. So for Maraena, Midnight-Energies, Sophia, Meaghan MacLeod, Katherine, Cristycurves, Emily Rushton, Savannah Lane, Victoria, and anyone else anywhere that is ready for spring breezes here is your hug. Remember that this is a once every thirty years thing so you are all too young to remember the last time this happened. One day you will look back at this fondly. Embrace. :)
  10. Those damned surgeries - always getting in the way! I'm one of those recent cancelees due to a rather unexpected and major surgery so this one is a no show for me, but I certainly will be back at one eventually. So you just have a beer for me and feel free to distribute hugs on my behalf. Hope all is well or goes well or went well with your surgery. MN2
  11. Hello my NB friend. have a great birthday on this little winter day. :) All the best to you. MN2
  12. Wow Sophia, sorry that I missed this milestone at the time, but Congratulations! Well done and keep it up. :)
  13. I don't know where to start passing out hugs to all who need one or who could use one, so this is for anyone that would like to accept it. :)
  14. One of my comfort foods. My world famous homemade Mac and Cheese. :)
  15. I recently watched the three seasons of Sherlock on Netflix. Each season consists of three one and a half hour episodes. It's a modern take on Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Sherlock and Martin Freeman playing Dr. Watson. By the second episode in Season one I was hooked. Apparently there will be a Christmas episode this year and a new season 4 is in the works. Highly recommended from this man.
  16. I am watching the snow pile up and everything disappear outside as our next blizzard has started. I expect that by tomorrow evening PEI may be open to travel again. So I am writing a few things here on Cerb in what seems like the first time in ages and sending off a few emails to people.
  17. And mix in a little bit of a Newfoundland accent with the French - Oh La La... :)
  18. It's no secret from here - Habs all the way. I always was a fan and always will be. I like the way they look again this year but sure wish they had another one or two natural goal scorers. Their fate rests with Kerry Price I am afraid. Go Habs Go!
  19. Well, I am not much of a connoisseur of drink, nor much of a drinker, but I do have my my preferences. For most of the time it is a red beer at room temperature right out of the box, and I am partial to Gahan beers from a microbrewery here on the Island. On those hot days in summer ice cold from the fridge is best. On December 1st I start with my own recipe for hot rum toddies that take me through until New Years. For wine it is dry reds, and I would put my own home made wines against anything I have ever purchased. Sante........
  20. Happy Birthday Berlin. I hope that you have a great year ahead. :) MN2
  21. Well to start off the highlights I must describe the month from Hell. After coming home from an amazing two weeks away with family I discovered that while I was away my oil furnace had self imploded. It shot soot and smoke throughout the entire house and it got into everything - clothes, cupboards, covered furniture drapes and walls and ceilings. At that point it has shut itself off therefore freezing every pipe in my home. I then managed to come down with my first flu in 20 years despite having had the flu shot as I always do. Then I found myself scheduled for rather serious surgery out of province. So, where are the highlights? My insurance company is covering the soot damage from the furnace implosion. The estimate is close to $20 K and every single thing is being washed and cleaned and apparently most or all of the interior will be repainted. Insurance will not cover the many burst pipes because I had the house checked every two days rather than every day. So learn from me and be sure to have your home checked daily if you travel. My plumbing is now all done and though I had to rip out one ceiling and one wall to access pipes I still got away lucky. The flu shot must have helped a bit because that flu came and went quickly and was not overly serious. The surgery was done last week in Halifax and it seems to have gone amazingly well!! I have a two month recovery period so I shall have to learn to be still and quiet and rest. I suppose I can do that. Try it MN2, you might like it! So a long story but ultimately I will have a clean bill of health and will have my spring cleaning done for me from top to bottom. Whoo Hoooo. :)
  22. Wishes for a very Happy Birthday Lee!
  23. Happy Birthday Bianca from a secret admirer. MN2
