Je Suis Charlie - ??
mrrnice2 replied to mrrnice2's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
But you ARE Charlie. This issue is not strictly about defending the newspaper, or the Dalhousie students or hate literature or things of that nature. It is far more basic than that. It's about people realizing that their thoughts and words, within reason, should neither be censored nor met with violence. Now what is reason is where the debate might go. It's about being able to express an opinion and to have the courage to do so, be it popular or not. That is exactly what you are doing. So thank you! -

Heading out the door to get paint for my bedroom reno. Yikes and I am pretty well color blind. :) GEEZE! IT edited the name of my room to the word private!! Imagine the name of a room that I sleep in! :) I guess bedroom is a banned word in Canada now. -
Canoe because its only slightly less tipsy than a kayak! I actually prefer dry land! Roasted chicken or BBQ chicken?

Boxers here. Favorite Canadian Region? Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies or the west coast?

A good days work has been put in on my winter renovation project and I'm settling in to watch the NFL playoff games. It was a beautiful sunny day here in PEI as well.

Stripping wallpaper off of my bedroom walls and starting the plaster repair. Looks as if I can salvage the original plaster and not have to gyprock any of it. :) This will be a several week long project. Geeze - a word was changed! The room where I sleep. LOL -
Have a great birthday Mod. Hoping that this year will be easier than your last one may have been. Thanks for all that you do as well. Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday Loneskater. I hope that you have a great day!

Hard to believe that this tumultuous year has come to its end! I want to take this opportunity to wish all my friends here, both those that I have met and those that I am yet to meet, A Happy New Year. May 2015 be a year of dreams accomplished.

Congratulations Bianca on the milestone. :)

To be as fortunate as I am. Christmas is approaching and my kids will all be home along with my still new grandson who is already here. I am fortunate to have such an amazing family, a lovely warm farm home that looks like a Christmas postcard, good friends and my health.

It has been an interesting six days since the passage of the new legislation. Something appears to be happening that I have never seen before and it boils down to, "What if they passed a law and nobody cared?" Since December 6th if you've been following it, there have news stories, editorials, public opinion commentaries, police force announcements, anecdotal stories, and many with the common theme that the law is foolish, unenforceable, a constitutional afront to the decision of the Supreme Court, and other than for abuse and trafficking and those sorts of things will be ignored. I for one would LOVE to have been a fly on the wall in the meeting rooms of Joy Smith, Peter MacKay, and some of the so called rescue groups that passed this legislation as they read the press releases. They must be beside themselves, but I do not think that they have given up their fight. Now, with me being me, I am not yet quite ready to say to all of those here who want to say to me, "I told you so," that I was wrong. :) It is still early days and as long as it is a law on the books it has its potential dangers. However when it is actually gone, nobody will be happier to admit that he was wrong than I !!!!! Keep supporting sex worker organizations and each other.

Reclaiming Feminism?
mrrnice2 replied to mrrnice2's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Perhaps I simply overlooked the obvious so your statement helps to clarify things for me. Again here Berlin, that statement also puts things in a better perspective. I shall try to be more tolerant in my mind with first impressions of the words feminism and feminists. Thanks to everyone for their opinions and viewpoints on my original opinion/question. From a purely personal perspective, I know that I have become very riled in the past six months with the reading of press statements, with opinions of many, and mostly after watching much of the parliamentary committee testimony on the new legislation. I REALLY appreciate and support the view that in its most simplistic interpretation feminism may be a desire for equality of all, as basic as that. Sounds like a pretty awesome goal to me. -
I am sending out some early Christmas greetings and I realize that once you get to know someone then if you send a gift it is something that requires a great deal of thought in order to make it, "Just right." So I thought this thread might be a place for us to share those special gifts for special people. I shall start this one off. Merry Christmas Lee Richards. I am sure that you don't have one of these and I shall try to get it for you if they are not out of stock. Wear it proudly. :) Happy Holidays. MN2

Great thoughts to all that are able to attend the social this evening. I know that I would like to have been able to get to the big city to enjoy the evening with you, but alas, it was not possible this time. Congrats to mistert and Loneskater for all of their efforts. For those that know me feel free to spread some kisses and hugs around in my name. Have fun!!!!! -
Amazing letter from the new Toronto City Council to Premier Wynn. Wouldn't it be nice! Kudos to Toronto! It appears as if that link has been closed since I posted it early this morning. The link on Twitter posted by POWER last night is still working. I'm trying to post it as an image but no success so far. If anyone else can get it and make it available, it really is an amazing letter! Another well written article.

I am not a big App user and pretty well confine myself to those that I think I will find useful. Two that I use a great deal are Songza and Tunein Radio. Both require internet access so unless you're around wifi they may cost a bundle for the data. Songza is simply a huge compilation of music playlists that is organized into themes and genres. No fee. Tunein Radio is exactly that. Virtually any radio station anywhere and it also includes commercial free music stations that again can be searched by theme or genre. No fee. Since I have wifi at home and a great sounding bluetooth wireless speaker, both of these apps get a great deal of use from me.
