Snow tires vs All-seasons is probably going to be a never ending debate and all I will do is share my experience. For many many years we used all-seasons exclusively and one winter for whatever reason we moved to a true snow tire. The difference was like night and day. The next time we changed we went to studded snow tires and the difference again was even more striking. From personal experience I am a confirmed snow tire advocate. I live in a rural area however with a lot of snowfall and icy roads and probably 95 % of my driving is on the highway. As for brand of tire I generally like Michelin but with tires this may be a place where the old adage of, "You get what you pay for," is true.

I finished today the construction of my new greenhouse. It is all done now until spring and I am so excited about it!

Pepper Movies - Comedies or Thrillers?

The fact that we have distinct seasons in this country is one of our most unique Canadian features. Most of us have our favorite season but it is these changes of season that happen regardless of our wishes that helps us to mark the passage of time and bring each of us to different mindset. Much of Canada has had an amazing summer with beautiful weather from coast to coast. In some ways it seems like only yesterday that the weather turned here last May but in reality that was six months ago. Now as I look in on Cerb or watch the national news I am starting to see references to flurries, cool weather or even snow. For myself I still enjoy winter, and that is not because I am a great winter outdoor person. I enjoy the freshness of the air, the days when snow is glistening from the sun shining on it, or the days when snow falls steadily and slowly and accumulates are really pretty gorgeous days. Yes there is shoveling, scraping of windshields, starting and throwing wood into the furnace and all of those winter chores but those all go with the Canadian experience and I am lucky enough to still enjoy them. Enjoy your winter and don't wish time away. Summer will come again. :)

I shall be interested to read responses to this one. No, I do NOT fall into the demographic that is supposed to enjoy this movie, but, I have loved it and can hardly wait for the final part of the movie to come out soon. I read all of the books, and as is usually the case when books are turned into movies, they were better than the film version. So am I the only guy who is looking forward to this? Of course, I REALLY have this thing about vampires. :)

It comes as a surprise to me that there are some who may equate lots of ads and advertising with a heavy volume of business (however THAT may be defined). I guess I do not see the connection between the two. There is a cliche that says' "Assumption is a dangerous thing," and this may be an example of that. Despite that statement, I do make assumptions based on advertising and online personna. My assumptions however are not based on how many ads or posts that a provider has but rather on the quality of the ads and posts. I do make very positive assumptions when I see creative ads, well written ads, and sincerity, depth and glimpses of the woman behind the SP in her posts on threads. The other aspect of the original thread related to volume. Since I am using cliches here, there is one that applies to me and as written previously on here it applies to some others as well. "Ignorance is bliss." How many people a woman sees is something that I just don't need to know and neither is it something that I want to know. Interesting topic Nathalie.

NJ. Thank you for sharing that. What an amazing and powerful story and in my own little ways I have seen that scenario lived out more than once by more than one teacher/child relationship. What is important is that you are bringing to our attention the fact that the way in which a single person reacts or relates or responds to another, in sometimes what seem to be very inconsequential ways, may have a profound impact on that person and can literally turn a life around. Red wine. The Easter Bunny or Santa Claus?

This evening it was a traditional ham and potato scallop with creamed corn and squash from my garden. For dessert a sampling of my first batch of Christmas shortbread cookies. I ate way too much!

First of all, the thread is now going by a misnomer because as I write if my calculations are correct there are 52 days until Christmas. I will not argue in the least that Christmas has indeed become commercialized to an extent that is beyond the beyond but Christmas need only be as commercial as each of us allows it to be. I have to go on record as being a person that loves Christmas, the season, and virtually everything about it. I take pleasure in the little things. I am an avowed "I hate shopping" person, but I love going into malls at Christmas. I enjoy the bright lights, the decorations, the atmosphere,the bustle. What a great people watching opportunity. I recall fondly growing up in Montreal and walking St Catherine's Street and being mesmerized by the store front window displays. For many there is that special feeling about Christmas, a feeling or an attitude that would be nice to see all year long. Food drives, turkey drives, mitten and hat donations, a feeling that we are each others keepers and it is genuine. A voice in the wilderness. :)

I love the Keg too Meg, but tonight for me it is pizza and beer to go with football. :) A great combination.

It's been a great week of warm weather and I continue getting my outside Christmas lights up at a time when I don't even have to wear gloves, and no frozen fingers for sure. The only little hitch is that when I put up my new section this year I decided that the nice blue rope lights clashed with the red ones. So down came the red, off to get new blue ones, got them all up and last night when I tested them to see if I had it right, both of the new sets had outages right smack in the middle of the strands. So down they will come today to be returned, and the new ones will probably finish this outside labor of love for me. :) December 1st is my outside lights startup evening.

The use of vaccines is clearly one of the primary means of maintaining a high standard of public health. For those of us who are older that small scar on our arm that we got when being vaccinated for smallpox when we were younger is a badge of proof of what vaccines can do. Smallpox virtually does not exist any longer and is considered to have been eradicated by the World Health Organization. There are many anecdotal stories about things such as a flu vaccine causing the flu or about immunizations being related to autism, but the statistical proof is simply not there. My anecdotal story says that as a teacher, I got the flu every single year until I began with the vaccines twenty years ago or more. I have not had the flu since. Yes there are stories of government and drug company collusion but the facts speak for themselves. Vaccines are one of the underpinnings of our public health system and it is one of our personal responsibilities to keep our vaccines up to date.

Kissing. I adore it. For me the most intimate of acts. Slow and tender, exploring gently. Hands cupping a face, caressing the neck, running fingers through hair. Teasing. Smiling. Laughing. And the eyes. Oft times they are closed, but gazing into open eyes as lips and mouths move ever so close - the eyes are indeed the window to the soul.

There are municipal, provincial and federal laws, both civil and criminal. Regardless of the law, there is ultimately the decision by law enforcement on whether to pursue something. Simply having something being legal does not mean that it will be permitted. Sophia used an apt term and that being tolerance. It is sad to say but in PEI it could be a bigger issue than elsewhere. Another example that saddens me is that abortion is legal in Canada but no woman can access one in PEI. So there are laws and legalities but then there is the reality of the community or province choosing to ignore them.
