  1. I am with Pete all the way on this. Football all the way. CFL now and can hardly wait for the NFL to kickoff on Wednesday night. I normally watch almost no hockey until playoffs start anyway, other than an occassional period here and there. Perhaps if the lockout is long enough they will just go to a series playoff rounds. :)
  2. Happy Birthday to you Touch. May it be a great day and a start to a great year ahead.
  3. Hi Summer. I know that at least in all of the Maritime provinces if you join the provincial library then you can download ebooks the same way as if you were signing out a paper copy. I would guess that is now common everywhere.
  4. I am only several chapters into the book and wished to make a few comments. Let me preface my remarks by stating that this is exactly the genre of book that I would never knowingly pick up to read. I have stated elsewhere that I am probaby what can be classed as am immature reader - Virtually 100 % of the time I select popular fiction a la Tom Clancy, John Grisham, and so on. So a thanks to those who voted this selection as our first book club choice. I have found it to this point to be an easy read and am already feeling somewhat disturbed by this exposure to a life that is utterly foreign to me. I did smile to myself and felt an immediate common bond with Jules when he explained to Baby very early on that when one reads a novel every word actually means something else. It made me think of my high school English teachers and university English teacher. Sometimes, for me, a story can just be a story. :) Voila, a science and math student I became! I was most interested to see the setting being in downtown Montreal and in an area that I am rather familiar with. I am already fascinated by Baby's childlike demeanor on the one hand while at the same time exhibiting worldly knowledge that should be far beyond a person of her years. I have no idea where this book is going, and I sense not to a good place, so the immature reader in me says please let me be wrong. :) Until next time.........
  5. Tonight is my draft in a fantasy football pool for the NFL. No, not THAT kind of fantasy. :) Any NFL prognosticators care to help me with some secret hidden gems? Top defense, I like Houston. I have this crazy idea of drafting Tebow as my QB. Sanchez has not done the job in NY and Tebow just seems to work his magic wherever he is. Running backs and wide receivers. All suggestions welcome.
  6. To unwind means to me to be in a relaxed place where there is no pressure to think or do, but enjoy the moment. It can be as simple as sitting on my butt while weeding the flower gardens or sitting on the ride on mower, or getting lost in a great book.
  7. Just looked at the thread and it is a tad jumbled so lets get it back on track. I like both Luckyme and Conquistador because they have awesome handles, and Cristy because she has started some fun threads in recent days. :)
  8. There are lots of things that I am proud of, at many different levels. I am proud to be Canadian. I am proud of my children, more than can be expressed.
  9. A fun and uplifting video. :) http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap120710.html
  10. At times a hug such as this is appropriate.
  11. First and foremost may the owners not be that greedy to do this again. The last time there was a strike is when TSN began its coverage of poker, and that alone seems to be the thing that brought Texas Holdum to the mainstream, but no way is that spectator friendly. To my horror they also carried of all things, dog shows. My God, one realized how desperate things were when one saw that! So, if the worst should happen, then I hope that they might add on some junior hockey or perhaps even some of the level 2 NCAA football. I believe that I will read even more, and maybe start on some of the TV series that are being mentioned in another thread. http://www.cerb.ca/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=102521 Come on Bettman, get realistic!
  12. I know that I am a cheiloproclitic person but as my oculoplania happens in a search for a callipygin it makes typhlobasia virtually impossible which leads me to frustration that causes astrophe. My little contribution to the thread: Eunoterpsia (YOO-noh-TURP-see-uh) - The doctrine that pursuing sexual pleasure is the goal of life.
  13. This is a cumulative highlight but the last couple of days I have been off camping with my daughters. Amazing weather, and we spent a couple of days at the air show and saw the Snowbirds and the American F-18 team, the Blue Angels. Had a swim at the beach this morning but have gone back to my normal routine again as of this afternoon. It was a holiday well appreciated.
  14. We have not met but I have been following your progress on this since the start and simply want to wish you the best of luck. I am still amazed with your positive attitude and how you can laugh with yourself at this. These are two things I admire you for. Good luck to you.
  15. Camping which is where I am off to today. Several days of reading, quiet, walks or bike rides, and playing games around the picnic table beside the fire. No stress no pressure and sometimes just mindless nothingness.
  16. Sending wishes for a very Happy Birthday and a wonderful year ahead.
  17. I expect that I shall take part in this book club. Be aware however that I have never been in one previously and that I have no idea of what it actually means or how it works. Also, as much as I love to read, I am also probably what would be called an immature reader as most of what I read would be under popular fiction and rarely would I voluntarily choose to read something 'heavy'. However, that being said, perhaps this is an opportunity to broaden my horizons. :) MN2
  18. Happy Birthday Scott. Have a great day and year ahead.
  19. Happy Birthday Steve. Hope that you have a great day and that your Sox will pick up another game on our hated Yankees today.
  20. My Little Cerb thank you today goes to sandimoon for a delightful and heartfelt PM that she took the time to write to me in response to something that I had contributed on this site. It is little gestures such as that that can make it a feel good day. Thanks Sandi. :)
  21. Picking fresh vegetables from my garden. Today were beans, tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce and a several quarts of blueberries.
  22. My lttle Cerb thank you today goes to Boomer for his welcome to me here and for inviting me out for a beer and a bite to eat the last time that I was in Ottawa.
