The idea of romance is alive and well in my mind , though is indeed difficult to define. The dictionary definition posted by Nathalie for the most part seems rather cold and mechanical and that is the anethisis of romantic to me. The closest part of that definition is the use of the two words idealism and chivalry. I have always been idealistic and even after all of these years I still feel that I have not lost my idealism. I do like Nathalies simple statement of romance being the inspiration to make someone feel special. When one meets a person for whom the desire for romance becomes instinctive, a natural act, something that you strive for with pleasure, then you know there is that connection present between the two of you. In a great relationship those things would commonly be present but also there will be the desire to prepare those extra special moments that might include the candles, and massage oils, the culinary treat, and all of the little nuances that you know your partner enjoys and appreciates. Sitting in a small cafe for hours sharing a bottomless pot of coffee or tea and discussing and talking and laughing - with truths and feelings being shared is another way of feeling a romance or building a romantic atmosphere. Part of the 'romance' is the ability to 'know' the other person and that simply takes time for a meeting of the minds to occur. I believe that it would be difficult be it as a hobbyist/patron or SP/MA to be a romantic in a short encounter, but this is where the illusion comes in. A short encounter for the first time, where one walks into a room with the lighting dimmed, the candles burning, with the lady having taken time to dress and prepare and making it clear from the moment that you meet that there is only one focus for her - that can help to create that romantic feeling that I enjoy. I like to think that I am a romantic and that it is something that I shall never lose, both in real life and in this environment.

I thought I would put these in the Things that Suck thread, but then I thought that most of you would think this was cute. LOL My yard this morning. Mom and 6 babies. Eating cherries that fell off of my tree.

I like Angela because she has organized socials in Ottawa, with another on the way, three of which I have attended. She also came to the Maritimes recently and helped to make our social such a success. And, she has a great sense of humour as well as having the ability to tell it like it is.

An interesting question Jabba - how does one describe something that cannot be articulated. Sex is an experience, a feeling, an emotion based desire for that something that sometimes leads to an ultimate reality. One's mind raises possibilities, and one's thoughts run rampant with anticipation. The mind is the biggest sex organ. Sex is not merely a physical act, in fact I would go as far as saying that it is less a physical act than an act of the psyche. Imagine what the sex act would be like without fantasy and desire. Mrgreen said it best here already. The eyes have it. To gaze into a partners eyes with that first mutual recognition that this is special. To gaze into a partners eyes with that first kiss and to gaze into a partners eyes as ones lips taste nether regions. To gaze into a partners eyes at that moment of entry. The eyes do tell the story that words can never capture. I would wager that this is not gender based, that it is a human characteristic and not geared specifically to either male or female, but to all of us.

Two years ago I was pretty neutral regarding tattoos on women, and probably if I had to say one way or another I would have said that I did not find large tattoos or sleeves attractive. However, in the past two years that has changed 180 degrees. What I have found is that so many women have tattoos, bot small or large, that have a meaning to them as individuals, and once I learned that, then I believe that I have become a fan. I aslo learned that these women are WAY tougher than I. My one and only small tattoo will be my last. It hurt like hell, and I cannot imagine having multiple or large tattoos! And hey Sara. Just so you know. You cannot be upstaged, by someone with tattoos or not, you are always front and center. :) Your personality is even stronger than your awesome tattoos. :)

Famaliar or Cautious?
mrrnice2 replied to Amelia Fox's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Amelia. Per your situation, was the email that you opened to you as an SP and that is how that contact came to be? I am sure you asked him those same questions - kids, wife, education, location, pets etc.His answers to those may determine something for you. Looking back in life is always an easy thing to do, sometimes with new wisdom and better experience, sometimes just wistfully. Allow me to tell a story. My sister was married in 1971 and their marriage lasted only 2 years before they went their separate ways. It was not to be. In 1992 I met her former husband at a seminar, actually a group hypnosis session to help people stop smoking. Well, I saw him there and debated about approaching him. After it was over I walked behind him and when he left the building he stopped, leaned up against a lamp post and lit up. I grabbed my smokes and joined him. So much for the seminar, but something much moree important happened at that time. All of his questions were about my sister and he wanted to find her again. I called my sister that night, told her, and she gave the OK. A week later they were together, and two months after that were married for the second time. He passed away in 2011. I guess the point of the story is that when they were younger they were not ready, and both of them, for many many years regretted what had come to pass. Their second try at it was incredible, and both had regrets over all of the lost time. Does this have any bearing on your situation? I don't know. So Amelia, I shall be interested in what you do. PS. I hope that I have not missed the point of your thread completely! -
Lobster season has come and gone (and I made good use of it ), but today another season starts. I am having my first fresh peas right from my garden, along with new PEI potatoes. I shall compliment those with some fresh fish. Anyone care to join me for dinner? :)

The saying that time flies while having fun covers this situation perfectly. It is unbelievable how fast time goes when one is with a lady that you do enjoy being with and have that 'connection' with. I believe that I generally am pretty good at being aware of time, or more so the passage of time, but I have been wrong on at least a couple of occassions. In both cases when I got home I sent an email transfer to the women and in both cases I received a little note saying thank you but it was not necessary, and the transfer was declined. I have learned from those experiences and just from all experiences in general, that what I enjoy is the time spent. I am not a MSOG person probably regardless of how long we spend together, but I love and appreciate the conversation before and afterwards, and I realize that about myself. For me, the rare date is only an hour. In several cases that was what I have booked but after doing so I realized that was stupid of me considering who I was going to see, so we mutually arranged to extend that time before I arrived. Good decisions MN2!! All that being said, to answer Gabriella's question, I for one would have no issue at all with the woman reminding me of what time it is. Ahead of time we have concluded a mutually agreed upon contract, and I would not want to conciously abuse it. I have been in rooms with SP's where there is no clock visible and fortunately my internal clock was functioning, but the presence of a clock would not make me think that I am being pushed out the door. That could be a simple thing. So Gabriella and others, remind me as required, even though you should not have to do that. A deal is a deal.

I like Malika because - well, let me count the ways. - Since I arrived on Cerb, she was one of the ones that I have spent some time with in chat. - She will always be, regardless of how she changes it all the time, my "Little red haired girl." - We visited in person twice at Ottawa socials, and she tried to give me a boobies video gift on my birthday, but I am technologically incompetent :) - We did have a tentative date in Halifax that had to be cancelled, maybe postponed, and I was going to take her to and show her Peggys Cove. - I love her tattoos and her special meanings behind many of them. - She and I have some mutual amazing friends. - And I love her far out posts on the Unhijackable Thread of Randomness!

Every single night that I am outside I scan the heavens for UFO's. I have not seen one yet, but I believe. Also, every single time I go to the beach, I scan the waters for a mermaid. I have not seen one yet, but I believe. :) These are two of lifes little mysteries and the enjoyment of looking cannot be taken away. :) Why soon we will be told there is no Santa Claus or tooth fairy or God forbid, no BBM Resort!

Congratulations Angela. Its always a treat to read your contributions. Well done! -
Well I don't know where to start with this day - it was a great day from start to finish, and it's only 5:30, so lots to do yet. I finished tilling my garden and weeding and it looks incredible. Potential for a bumper crop this year. Then looked at my email mid-morning and got the notification that I have been looking for the the PEI Air Show tickets are on sale. The Snowbirds and the Blue Angels will both be here. The tickets are ordered so how about front row center, and all of my kids will be here for it. Three days of camping at a provincial park in the area are also reserved! Finally I spent the afternoon trying to salvage and restore my raspberry patch that fell by the wayside two years ago. I have a ways to go yet with them but progress is obvious. Oh hey, did I say it was yet another glorious weather day here in the Island? I have special friends in Halifax and Ottawa who enjoy my blueberries and I am pleased to say that the bushes are looking as if there will lots of picking in August. I also heard from a couple of friends. What a day!

Do You Believe In Love?
mrrnice2 replied to drlove's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Yes it is. :) -
Canada Day, as with many other holidays has come with traditions that evolved over time. One wish I always wanted was to be on Parliament Hill for the whole of Canada Day in order to take in the entertainment, enjoy the atmosphere and end it off with fireworks. I actually did manage to get ther just once and spent the day on the Hill, in the rain, and then late in the evening hearing that the fireworks were cancelled because of the high winds. Even with that it was still a day to look back at fondly. So for me the normal tradition of Canada Day on PEI will be intact for this year. Lots of family here, a gorgeous warm sunny day with a nice breeze. The lobster is from the last haul of the season yesterday along with potato salad, cole slaw, a garden salad made with some early things from my garden. We will finish off with a fresh bowl of strawberries for dessert. After dinner the short drive to Charlottetown to watch fireworks. It is interesting that yesterday I heard a report on the news that in a survey 70% of the people they polled would be interested in having a maple leaf tattoo. For me that's the one and only tattoo I have so maybe for once I am ahead of the curve. The more that I travel and the more that I speak with people who are international travellers, the more that I appreciate all it is that being a Canadian and living in Canada brings. Happy Canada Day everyone!

For me I can say with certainty that I believe that most people do in fact act with the best of intentions. I give trust freely, and yes there is the odd time that I have been burned by doing so, but even in those cases I believe that the other person involved did have the best of intentions. Sometimes as they say, shit happens. In the situation described by the OP everyones intentions were in fact good, but it was that unknown and unforeseen event that intervened. One can never overlook or be totally unaware of the X-Factor. It is easy to jump to conclusions when one is unaware of all of the facts, so I know that I will give the benefit of the doubt in most cases. In some cases when I screw up, the "I am sorry" statement does cover it all and reasons are almost unnecessary because sometimes that can be interpreted as justifying. It is easier sometimes to simply say,"Oops. I really am so sorry. What happened was my fault and due solely to my own stupidity." My own stupidity is often my own worst enemy!

Favourite Olympic sport?
mrrnice2 replied to Cato's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
The Olympic Games are full of amazing athletes playing sports at an amazing level. It is difficult to choose just one sport, however based on the following experience I would go with Men's Volleyball. I have always enjoyed the sport so when the Olympic Games were held in Montreal in 1976 I lucked into tickets for the gold medal match which ended up being between Poland and the USSR, with the USSR being the overwhelming favorite and Poland being the ultimate underdog. Now the context is that at that exact moment in time Poland was embarking on the Solidarity movement with Lech Walesa being the leading figure in promoting strikes and protests aimed at their USSR masters. It was David vs Goliath in world politics. Well, at the Olympic gold medal final we found ourselves in the Montreal forum. I believe that there were 17 998 Polish people, and then there was my wife and I. The match was the most emotionally charged event that I have ever been party to, and in the end Poland defeated the USSR by 3 games to 2. It will be an event that I shall never forget. So my first contribution to this thread would be men's volleyball. No politics in the Olympics? Don't count on it. -
This is more a highlight of the month to come. PEI being PEI, company is the norm through the summer. I have already had visitors and it starts again today. Friends will be here along with my daughters, my sister and her husband, and I pretty well know that I have only a few free days between now and the end of July. More than one person has said I should open a B&B, and actually that has sort of a nice feel to it. How about a CERB friendly B&B on my Island? :)

Despite the fact that this is a nasty wet day with wild winds beating my flowers down, it's been just a very good day. I got caught up with some emails, have the house cleaned up again for the next round of company, I finished book two of the Hunger Games trilogy, have the plans made for Canada Day weekend when my daughters will be home, ordered the lobster from a fisherman friend. All in all just a good day with a feeling of being totally relaxed.

Halifax Social Rocked!!!
mrrnice2 replied to drlove's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I am back home again after a really good trip to Halifax, with the social/Meet and Greet being the highlight. The goal for the evening was to make it a comfortable get together for all those who could attend, and that goal I believe was met. Yes perhaps we were cautious or maybe overcautious but we felt it important to have this first event be successful and therefore we did keep it small and it was attended by members who have pretty well established reputations. WIT covered the reasons for this in his post already. So lets focus on the fact that this was good and everyone had a good time. I left my wheelchair and crutches in my car and depended on good company and a few drinks to keep me up and mobile, and I had both of those, so I did more than OK. I even got a few dances in on the dance floor. It was pretty cool to meet people face to face whose posts you have read and find that in some cases they were exactly as expected or envisioned and how in other cases they were different from what I expected. I'm not saying who fit into each category, but that was a really fun part of it. Now I am ready to see who will be organizing the next Ottawa social - I will be there! After this one maybe there would be a big Maritime contingent along with me. :) To all those who were able to be there a big thank you for making the evening the success that it was. A special thanks to all those who brought door prizes, and also to Carrie Moon who sent along a number of things. They were very much appreciated! Until our next Meet and Greet................. -
Halifax Social Rocked!!!
mrrnice2 replied to drlove's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Oh wow! When I get home and get some sleep under my belt I will write a bit more, but for the moment, oh wow. I am quite certain that every single person was comfortable with how it went and I hope that this was only the first of the Meet and Greets that will be held in the Maritimes. I met some really fun people last night, so to all who attended thank you. I DO need some rest though. For me, 1:30 in the morning is WAY past my bedtime and trying to keep up to Sophia and Katherine on the dance floor is no easy task. Yes, Halifax rocks. :) -

Halifax Revisited - Meet and Greet
mrrnice2 replied to mrrnice2's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Thanks to all of those sending best wishes! I for one am pretty excited about tomorrow nights Meet and Greet, a who's who of Cerb members from the Atlantic area and beyond! I better get some sleep tonight, and try to sleep in tomorrow morning. I have a feeling that it could be a late night! :) See a whole bunch of you tomorrow night. Angela, did Old Dog stow away in one of your suitcases or is the opportunity to scrounge drinks still wide open for me?
