What music are you listening to right now?
mrrnice2 replied to Meaghan McLeod's topic in Fun Threads
My daughters taught me about the music app Spotify. I love it so have created my own personalized playlist. At this exact moment it is Robbie Robertson and The Band with the song . -
what are you doing at this very minute?
mrrnice2 replied to Exotic Touch Danielle's topic in Fun Threads
I am sitting here with a heating pad on my back because of a damn silly muscle pull, when I had every intention of being on an extended road trip to Ontario. I will get that trip in before too long for sure, but 17 hours driving would not be good in my present state. -
I saw The Martian two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I saw Spectre on Saturday and was quite disappointed with it for a James Bond movie. Can hardly wait for the conclusion of the Hunger Games next week.

Decriminalize Now - A Suggestion
mrrnice2 replied to mrrnice2's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
As mentioned above, it appears as if the new government is planning to move quickly on exploring what wrongs of Mr. Harper and Mr.McKay need to be righted. P.M. Trudeau has publicly released his letters of mandate to his new cabinet ministers. His letter to Ms. Wilson-Raybould includes the following paragraph. "You should conduct a review of the changes in our criminal justice system and sentencing reforms over the past decade with a mandate to assess the changes, ensure that we are increasing the safety of our communities, getting value for money, addressing gaps and ensuring that current provisions are aligned with the objectives of the criminal justice system." Bill C-36 is not specifically mentioned so I reiterate that now is the time to write as a concerned Canadian. During the so called review process prior to the law being implemented it appeared as if many Cerb (Lyla) members wrote to a government that couldn't have cared less. Who knows what the Liberals will do but give them a chance to show that they care. If they think that you don't care then no legislation changes will be no ones fault but our own. Write a damn letter....please. -
Contoversy. Should PM rethink refugee promise?
mrrnice2 replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
As with many things I have such mixed feelings over the issue. Normally I am an anti-immigration person, the reason being that we have our own Canadian issues that funding can deal with - unemployed Canadians, poverty, aboriginal discrimination and the list goes on. My feelings at the moment on the Syrian refugees goes counter to that and no doubt for my own unique reasons. It comes down to terrorism. I am not prepared to let the terrorists have their way. If and when we change our policy due to fears that that ISIS has generated then they have won. So let's take these refugees and let's help them incorporate into a Canada that is welcoming and that will allow them to make their way and contribute to our country. I also am ready to give our new government a chance to demonstrate their smarts. Until they prove otherwise I shall trust that with time they will do checks on our new future Canadians. They no doubt are moving quickly in order to meet a campaign promise so if the new people end up on military bases until the proper process for settling them is carried out and followed through on then so be it. -
Salmon, mashed potatoes with my garden peas and winter squash. Yum.

I had a great visit with one of my kids for a few days. I'm all packed for an extended road trip to Ontario however have twisted my back so am delaying that by a day at a time. The heating pad feels delightful however. Maybe a massage would help. :)

One of my kids is coming home for a long weekend and I am packing up for a road trip to Ontario. It's another beautiful late fall day in PEI as well.

A new government or in fact any particular government being in power has nothing at all to do with constitutional challenges. A challenge needs to work its way up through all of the court systems I believe. What a new government could do is refer the legislation to the Supreme Court for a ruling on its constitutionality, or change the legislation. If there is ever a good opportunity to effect change it is now and making that happen does not fall solely on the ladies. Everyone can do their part if they choose to. Rather than repeat myself I refer you to this thread, "Decriminalize Now - A Suggestion."

Nova Scotia sex workers questioned in human trafficking crackdown
mrrnice2 replied to Midnite-Energies's topic in In the news
Oh Man! "Police said the escorts contacted in Halifax and in the greater Sydney area weren't cooperative with police. "In the particular case of the six individuals in the Halifax area, they chose to continue their activity within the sex trade industry," Skinner said. "In Cape Breton, the same. Police used the operation as a way to bring attention to the larger issue that people who work in the sex trade industry are very susceptible to human trafficking, he said." So do I take it that choosing to stay in the profession and therefore not having a means of earning a living wage constitutes non-cooperation with the police? As well has the "story" changed so that now sex workers are only being considered as susceptible to human trafficking as opposed to the previous version that tried to say that all sex workers were already victims of traffickers and are abused by the nature of their work? More misinformation in the media?- 1 reply

It is a year to the day since Bill C-36 became law as the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act. One aspect of the act was the creation of a $20 million fund over five years to support exit strategies for sex workers. As I watched the hearings I sensed that there were many groups that had the the goal of, "Saving'" sex workers that were seeking funding. I know in my mind I questioned how much of that money would go to actual help for sex workers and how much would go to organizations, often evangelical based, whose main interest was in funding positions for their organisations as opposed to actually helping people. One of the drivers behind the legislation was Joy Smith a Conservative MP who has created the Joy Smith Foundation. She chose not to run again in the recent election and I am most interested in how much money that she has received as a result of the legislation. I have looked on her website and tried unsuccessfully to find budget information online from the Government of Canada site about how the funds were dispersed. Is there anyone that knows where one might find that information or who might have access to it.

Ottawa 2015 Xmas social
mrrnice2 replied to loneskater's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Although I am unable to attend this social I am hoping that it is a great success and that I will have an opportunity in the future. I have attended several socials in the past and they were always a great way to spend an evening and put names to faces and make some connections in a relaxed and pleasant way. I encourage everyone that can free up that date to make arrangements to attend. I know from helping with the Halifax social the amount of work and effort that goes into making these events happen so thanks to Loneskater and everyone else who put their time and effort into something that is a benefit to all. Have fun everyone. -
As the Ottawa REDBLACKS get set to play their last regular season game I thought that I would revive this thread from a year ago. My Al's are out of the playoffs so my sentimental favorite now has to be Ottawa. I do actually hate their new name and I think of the Roughriders and Russ Jackson and Ronnie Stewart and Landsdowne Park, but this team is making its own history now. I especially love that the city is supporting the team and selling out for the second season in a row. I'm still waiting for a Maritime team to get into this league.

what are you doing at this very minute?
mrrnice2 replied to Exotic Touch Danielle's topic in Fun Threads
Sipping a beer on this 14 degree day in PEI. I did more leaves and picked up outside stuff to put away for winter. Best of all I put my outside Chrustmas lights up and they will be ready to turn on December 1st. Warrmest fingers I ever had doing that job. A good day and I needed one. -
I love horseshit and gunpowder movies and John Wayne IS the king. (Or the Duke:) ) I think Rio Grande would be my pick. James Bond actors. Sean Connery or Daniel Craig?
-
BBQ boneless chicken breasts with stuffed double baked potatoes and squash. :)

Well I have this best ever recipe for seafood casserole. Lobster, shrimp, cod and lots of butter and real cream. I had it about three weeks ago for company and froze one extra large serving so tonight is the night. Hoping it will reheat nicely. Salad, rice and garden peas with it.

I just came inside to warm up after putting straw over my strawberries. It can start snowing and blowing any time and I think I can say that the outside work that has to be done, is done! -
I wouldn't touch that question with a ten foot pole, Now I don't have a ten foot pole but I still wouldn't touch it. :)

That's the thread! You and I and I think most are in full agreement!

I am in a hugging mood this evening so this is for Midnight-Energies, Mareana, Katherine and anyone else that might enjoy receiving.

I've already started seeing the Leafs jokes and it really should be a Leafs fan that starts this and not a Habs fan, but it's all in fun. I'd love to see a Montreal Leafs playoff series. Do ya think?
