Remember Sadie Hopkins day??
mrrnice2 replied to Rounding Third's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I am wondering if some might like to revisit this thread idea? It could be fun and there probably need not even be any need for a rating or voting system at all????? PM's or guest book entries or the stunning sound of silence could be all the feedback necessary. :) I realize that the BBM group may provide stiff competition as based on their existing reputation for quality and service, but what is life without a challenge? -
As with many things in life balance is a key. One cannot argue against the value of the internet as a resource for information. It is truly an unbelievable tool. From little snippets first heard about on the news, to little snippets heard during conversations to little snippets referred to here on Cerb, the net allows one to look further and delve deeper into topics of interest. Phaedrus quite accurately and correctly aslo pointed out the fact that one can tend to get 'side tracked', but like him I do not feel that this is necessarily a bad thing. Books however, true books - with covers and paper pages that have to be physically turned are my true sources of enjoyment and escape. To take that time as I do every single day to walk away from the computer, the radio and television, to sit and curl up on the couch and immerse oneself into the world of fiction is a treat like no other. I DO read a real book in a very different way from the way that I read anything on the internet. A slow reader I am and proud of it.

Congratulations Gabriella on this achievement. Well done! -
Having a frigging awesome 4 year old bathroom with a made for two jacuzzi in it. Well that sounds pretty good! But, last week when the water went above the jets the water flowed out and through the ceiling into the kitchen! Now it is looking as if I may have to tear out and destroy a lot of the tiles in order to get at the pump and plumbing under the tub. Grrrrrrrr

Valentine's Day
mrrnice2 replied to Claire Heavens's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Interesting thread! Valentines day was always a special day because it provided the excuse, not that one should ever NEED an excuse, but it was an incentive to get dressed up, to book a reservation at a fine dining restaurant, to spend 3-4 hours away from the kids and to relax and talk over a leisurely meal. A couple can easily get "too busy" and get out of that habit so often it would get us back into making that sort of an evening a more regular affair. I always liked Valentines Day. :) -

It's here - Super Bowl Sunday. The house is clean. the beer is in the fridge, the snacks are ready to put out, the shrimp and dip are looking good, the pizza burgers are ready to put together and made a key lime cake from scratch for those with a sweet tooth. Whipping the cream shortly for to ice it. The advantage of having the get together at home is I don't need a designated driver! :|) A method to my madness. For the game itself I am hoping for a close exciting match. The Giants are my favorites but I think with some logic as well behind my choice. Their defence can pressure Brady and Gronkowski playing injured may take away a prime NE receiver. The Giants are peeking and the Pats have been inconsistent and Eli Manning has his own core of quality receivers with Victor Cruz perhaps being the key. Here's to a great game, regardless of your choice. Let's play some football.

That is an interesting piece of trivia Loopie, that some of those involved in the film regretted their participation in the making of it. I had not been aware of that. I am neither a film critic nor one who looks for a lot of social commentary in my movie choices, however I did realize that I looked at the film in a slightly different light from when I watched it the first time so many years ago. For me, perhaps the most important thing that I wrote in the original post was the last line, being that both then and now it is a 'feel good' movie. Just good fun.

In a previous thread I made a comment about the Super Bowl commercials, those new ones, not being available here in Canada if you watch the game in Canada. The reason is found at the CRTC web site. http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info_sht/tv12.htm However, to get a sneak preview of at least one of tomorrows commercials, have a look. This can also be your little impetus to stay on that weight loss diet that you started on January 1st. :) Volkswagon - The Dog Strikes Back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-9EYFJ4Clo Finally, You Tube has done it again, and many of the commercials may be found here. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=super+bowl+commercials+2012&oq=super+bowl+commercials&aq=2&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=3121l8192l0l11555l22l18l0l9l9l0l343l343l3-1l1l0 Now I am a HUGE football fan, but to be truthful when you host a Super Bowl gathering and not all of the people are fans, these commercials make sure that everyone is included in the party one way or another. And then there is Madonna at half time if you are a fan.

Coming to the realization that some things must come to an end. Accepting that this year my glorious Montreal Canadiens may not be in the playoffs. :( But then, maybe they will win the rest of their games. :) Go Habs Go

I watched the movie Pretty Woman last week with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, and it really amazed me in a number of ways. Well, Julia and Richard were not with me , but well, you understand. First and foremost I watched it in such a different context as compared to how I watched it for the first time years ago. Years ago the idea of paid companions was nothing that I had ever considered and years ago the topic of the movie for me came with all of the old stereotypes. This time as I watched it, the entire perspective was different. One way that it was different was with my recognition of how true some of the 'lines' were. One in particular raised my eyebrows when the topic of safe sex was addressed with something along the line of, "Safe all the way, and with me it will be way safer than when you pick up an unknown at the local bar". There have been threads on here on exactly that, and it struck me how perhaps ahead of its time that movie really was. Perhaps the other primary thing that struck me as I watched the film this time around was how realistically Julia Roberts played the role in presenting herself initially as a sex worker but then allowing the person to shine through. That has been my experience here on Cerb, that the person behind the woman allows herself to shine through. How realistic the movie plot and the ending are I am quite unsure of and I expect that the outcome in the movie would be extremely rare in 'real life', but I bet it has happened. No matter what, both then and now, it was kind of a feel good movie. :)

For you sir, my pleasure, especially if you bring Dorinda who sounds kind of keen too. Kickoff at 7:29 exactly, Atlantic time.

Two weeks of hype is coming to its peak and thankfully coming to an end and we shall soon be on the field and the two teams shall determine this years champion. Both teams in effect backed into this game with what can be argued as lucky wins but be that as it may, two top teams are here. Hoping for a high scoring, close and competitive game, but being an anybody but Brady fan, lets go Giants. A big regret in watching the game will be the inability to watch the US commercials thanks to the CRTC 'protecting" me with its Canadian content rules. That could be another thread! Whoo Hoooo, Super Bowl party, beer, food and football.
