  1. I really should have posted this a while ago. I've had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Cleo over a year ago at one of the Ottawa socials, but have never had taken the opportunity to meet her until recently. From the initial PM to set up a morning rendez-vous, it's easy to see her professionalism and the pure fun she has in doing her job; quick replies, courteous, and seamless communication, and easy going, even as i was a few minutes late due to a stop i had to make and to find a parking spot. From the time the door opened, and some very quick chit-chat, a quick shower followed but, as soon as i stepped out, the rest seemed like going down the rabbit hole ;-) She LIKES very much what she does, and it shows... We have had a bit of time to chat, and it is safe to say that she is a brilliant conversationalist. Mmm ... Now that i think of it, and since she has planted the idea recently, i wonder how a bake-off would turn out like :-) ??
  2. Excellent bcguy! Thanks for doing this. Hadnt thought of it at the time - my brain was half asleep...
  3. There is a publication by the Quebec judicial information society (SOQIJ) on those very topics, stemming from a municipal court decision. It is an "old" paper (in 2010). Unfortunatly, it's only available in french as far as i can tell. As it's very late as i post it, i will not try to summarise it or translate just yet.
  4. Frankly, i drive the Ottawa - Montreal roads (both on the Quebec and Ontario side) on autopilot, and made detours for a few pit stops between Thurso and Papineauville along the 148. I didnt find an official press release either, but best bet is to take a look at this site from Transport Quebec as it gives status for the quebec roads. I AM sure that more sections of the 50 are built and in use since i last used it last spring. There is still LOTS of construction north of Montreal, on the 15 and 640 highways, as anywhere around or on montreal.
  5. Aside from religious fanatics (form any denomination) or political extremists, anything that plays a mind game. Asian horror has recently been a new fave as it's not as stupidly goring as some of the recent hollywood fare. More psychological in nature. Something like "The Audition" will do more for me in the scare department. A good horror book does more for me as it's not as visually restricting, that is i make my own scary thoughts (not being confined to the visuals of the movie directors, or their interpretations of a good story). Lovecraftian stories (from Lovecraft himself), Brian Lumley, etc...

  13. To get things more confusing ( ;-) ) on what (or where) is where in the country I'll just throw in a french quote from one of Quebec's great singer-songwriters (Gilles Vigneault): "Mon pays, ce n'est pas un pays, c'est l'hiver" Translated, it goes : "My country isn't a country, it's Winter" :-) But yes, the terminology can get confusing as all is relative to where we live as well.

  17. For many of us working in offices, we produce work by a due date. But for those of us working in Ottawa, the term "Deadline" is often used to all sauces. But what is really a "Deadline"? The true origin of the word Deadline seems to be debated, but it first appeared in 1864 in the States, in a report about a military prison made by Col. D. T. Chandler and also in another report by Confederate captain Walter Bowie. This reports were made after prison inspections which describes the Dead-Line as: "On the inside of the stockade and twenty feet from it there is a dead-line established, over which no prisoner is allowed to go, day or night, under penalty of being shot." While today, the word should be used to express a date by which, if we miss it, has dire results: failing a class, not getting a diploma, loss of revenue if we don't submit a contract or a bill in time, etc... Of course, where i work, it's all deadlines with no real dire results ... so few deadlines and a lot of due dates ..... :-)
