If nothing else, hopefully this case highlights that this exists in Canada, that SW's are not protected in the least, nor are their clients. This will definitely be treated as a test case, and the outcome will either drive positive change, or make it more difficult for clients to want to provide personal identifying information.

Nelly - Genuine or Fake Ad?
OldandNerdy replied to Jamesnicol's topic in Escort Discussion for Nova Scotia
Yeah I posted a thread about this type of thing at least a year ago and was essentially told that teaching doesn't work so we might as well just keep doing the work for them. I agree that the reason it doesn't work, is that there's no incentive for people to do a little bit more if we just keeping giving the answer. But until we all stop enabling the "any info" people, they just won't do anything for themselves. -
I'm wondering what other people do to celebrate their birthday once you get to a certain age? I mean I know I'm a fat ugly old dude, so I usually don't do much, but what do the cool handsome older dudes do to celebrate?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. A lot of people in my neighborhood have invested 10's of thousands in solar deployments for their home, and it was only recently that I learned few, if any, of them actually have storage setup as well. Essentially they paid close to 100k in many cases to have enough panels installed on their home to be able to cover their typical usage, and will "sell back" any overage to the power company. They thought this would mean that the power company would be sending them a cheque regularly. Much to their chagrin they realized their energy they sold wasn't worth much to the company, plus they still get a bill for being connected to the grid, on cloudy days they draw power from the grid, and over the winter they draw much more than they produce. Without the ability to store power, and be self reliant, they will typically never recoup the cost of the panels within the lifetime of the equipment. They aren't really doing much for the environment other than reducing the amount that is pulled from the grid. If I'm gonna spend that much money, I'd want to also have storage to run the house on non optimal days. And days when I need heat or AC. Let's not even start to talk about EVs using traditional coal/oil fueled electricity to charge every day here in NS. I'm all for making an environmental impact, but there are other ways to reduce our footprint.

I remember being a kid, yes I can remember that far back, and dreaming of the day in the future where we could carry around a small computer connected to a big network that had all of human knowledge so that it was always available, just like I would see in movies. We are now living in the future, and so many people don't realize or appreciate how far we've come in 50 years. As for remembering phone numbers, back in the day you only really had to remember a few, yours, a couple of friends, and maybe the pizza joint. Then back in the 80s, home phones started having 5-10 saved number buttons, and it was always an indicator of how important your friendship was to someone - where your number was saved in that list / if it was. I'm glad to have my contacts and calendar on my phone. As I get older, I find I'm relying on it much more often. Pro-tip! If you like to bake, use your contacts app to store recipes! I have all my favorites as contacts so that I don't have to dig out a recipe book or card when I want to bake something

Berlin Germany
OldandNerdy replied to OldandNerdy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Yeah, that's the kind of thing I'm interested in as well. There are pieces of the Berlin Wall here in NS, so I've seen those, but it will be interesting to see the actual site. -
There is a very recent post in reddit on the Halifax subreddit asking if a neighbor should call the police because they have a prostitute in a residential neighborhood If you think you have a nosy nellie living near you, maintain caution.

I know there are some pretty well traveled folks here. I'm going to be in Berlin in September for work, and I'm wondering what some of your favourite things to do there have been? Presuming you've been there before obviously. I'm going to check out the Berlin Wall Memorial as well as the holocaust Memorial. Both should be fairly interesting and emotional. Other than those, what have you enjoyed there?

I don't know about anyone else, but I miss the community that had grown here over a year long period. There was a lot of engagement, a lot of fun, and a lot of sharing of useful information. Of course, as always, there was also a fair amount of BS, which forced me to take a little break for awhile, but once I came back, Lydia left, things seem to be unmoderated for the most part, and generally it seems only newbies are posting the same old "anyone see her?" Posts over and over again. It makes me somewhat sad.

Before trying to have someone provide you with a reference, you should always talk to them first to make sure they are comfortable with that, and that you'll get the result you expect. This is valid for - personal references for jobs/volunteering - professional job references - receiving services from any service provider - everything else

New iPhone advice
OldandNerdy replied to Mikeyboy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Just be aware, even the most "easy going organizations" can turn nasty if there is ever an issue that might impact their public image. Using a piece of work provided / owned technology to do anything legally murky can be additional grounds to terminate someone. I've seen it happen before. "You used company property to do --the thing--, which is a breach of your terms of employment. " Just be careful and thoughtful of the future. Easy going bosses can change attitude quickly if they want to find a reason to. -
Well, really, all he did was - resurrect a 3 year old thread for no apparent reason - provide personal information about the provider - and then go ahead and do it twice for good measure. Totally reasonable /s

@roamingguy1roamingguy1 Get a second phone. The phone and the OS is what is controlled by your company. The SIM just gives access to a network -
Realistically, if you are in the valley, you're only 1-1.5 hours ish away from Halifax/ Dartmouth. If you're looking to enjoy the company of a wonderful lady, invest the time and drive in, because as stated, it's incredibly hard to be discrete in a small community. Yes you'll be adding a few hours onto your adventures, but there are so many amazing people here, it's definitely worth the investment.

New iPhone advice
OldandNerdy replied to Mikeyboy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Get a personal phone. Work phones are for work, especially if they have any sort of MDM (device management) software on them. Even on my own personal phone I subscribe to services such as iplum that give me a secondary number to use to protect my actual phone number from being used maliciously. So much stuff in our lives are tied to our email and phone number these days that it just gives malicious actors single points of attack to take over aspects of your lives. But back to your question. Definitely have a personal phone for your personal life. If it's a work phone, you don't want to tie any of your personal activity to it. -

You mention it's for work, did work provide this phone to you or pay for the service? If so, they own it, and also have the right to view anything you do on it. Never use a company provided device for personal usage. I've seen to many people do this and be surprised about what the company legally has access to. -
