As a foreigner the whole thing seems so odd to me. I will never understand why the US and Canada have such a war on sex work. New Zealand and Australia have a system that works amazingly, so there is no reason for countries not to follow suit except they like to be seen portraying a moral high ground. It amazes that people still think you need to combat the lot to stop trafficking. Where I come from it's not illegal for escorts or our customers. What is illegal is not using protection, to work when not in possession of a current health certificate. It is illegal to pimp girls - if working independently no one is aloud to sell sex but you, or you can work as an independent in a brothel. Men are required to pay, if you try and reverse a payment, or stuff an envelope with paper instead of cash you can bet your bottom dollar your going to jail, it's considered rape by fraud and deceit. You will also land yourself in jail if a girl says you can't do something and you force the sexual act after she said no. Both countries have a prostitution task force, that actually manages to save people needing help because they are not wasting time "looking" like they are combatting the problem. The biggest issue they have for trafficking is usually the asian market, of people bringing in asians and holding their passports and keeping them hostage until they pay off an outrageous debt. They have actually shut down operations like this because they are not wasting time with stings. Their job is to focus on cases like that and saving those that need to be saved, and to be their for the odd time a gentlemen does wrong and needs to be arrested.
