Sure but let's say I send a fake ID to a provider. Scenario 1: I just used someone else's ID. Either someone I know or a random ID I found on the internet. I arrive at incall and they look through the peep hole and I'm a different person so I get refused service. Or they come to outcall and I open the door and am nothing like the ID and they refuse service. Scenario 2: I have a good fake with my picture but fake info. I assault the provider. They report me to the police who will run the ID but it comes back fake. They run my picture and find my real ID. I'm arrested. Scenario 3: an ID I found online but the pic looks close enough to me that I get away with it. I guess you get away with it and get someone else in a lot of trouble potentially. But honestly in this case I feel like the client would just go for an easier target unless they had already done all the work to find a doppleganger ID. Asking for ID is for their safety as it will likely stop most of the creeps and guys who mean to harm the provider because it would just take a lot more work to get through the screening. Now the conversation about keeping the ID is totally different and I'm sure different providers have different policies for that. Again I would hope they would delete the data after the session but I'm sure not all of them do. But what are they really going to get with an ID? Sure they could sell it but to who? They don't have your SIN. I've emailed copies of my ID for other things and email isn't secure. When you buy a car they copy your ID. People lose ID's all the time and just get replacements so I doubt there's a super lucrative business out there for providers selling pictures of ID's.

I'm going to regret posting I'm sure... It's not only a power play. You are undermining and underestimating how at risk providers are. Again as stated multiple times if you don't want to do it then don't. Asking for ID tends to make people behave better then when they are anonymous. Having someone's ID also means if there is an issue like assault the provider has the clients real info to take to the police instead of "well he told me his name was X but it's probably fake." Those are two pretty understandable reasons. Now I would hope that an SP would delete your ID and not keep a record of it after you see them and all goes well but I don't know and assume most probably keep it for some time at least. You have to decide if that is worth the risk when you go to book. And to the original topic I think it's fine to ask for verification for lesser known providers who only post on LL. The providers with websites, reviews, active social media, etc you shouldn't ask because you can verify yourself through those channels.

I will say this is often true but there is at least one SP I can think of who advertises all the time (although it has been a while) and she does seem to scam people. Website, active twitter, etc. I won't name names but she has changed her name about 10 times in the past couple years.

Plus a major benefit with OF is they don't have to provide service to gross or disrespectful people.
