  2. I dont disagree with you that it isnt working the way it is supposed to currently. Youre missing my point though. I was simply saying why it was created. DEI evolved from civil rights movements in the 60’s during segregation times. People were historically not hired for roles they were qualified for based on skin color or other factors. The entire purpose of it was to increase diversity amongst a group of QUALIFIED individuals. It wasn't supposed to be box checking etc. It was supposed to be initiatives that simply increased the number of applicants of different races genders etc. The idea that during times where racial divide was very very very open, business owners wouldn't hire white people solely because of race, regardless of ability, is ignorant.
  3. I see what you are trying to say but the point that others have made to you. Is that the entire reason that DEI even exists is because historically and still in 2025, minorities are not being hired despite having all of the qualifications and experience. Hiring practices are not solely based on merit, they never have been. The job market has been in favour of people who are white. I agree that a company should not turn away a qualified person like your friend’s wife because they need to hire minorities. That is wrong. DEI needs to exist. It just has to be effective. It has to be legit policies and not box checking. **coming from a minority here. Black person born and raised in this province.
