Grass_Hopper 18263 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 http://www.cerb.ca/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=12478&highlight=shout Sorry MOD, I had free time to think... The older members will remember that we had a shout out box, long time go... It was very helpful, even essential for buisness at those time... It was a little box, on the second page (where the threads are listed), that would allow everybody to send quick messages, at any moment of the day. Everybody had access to it, and it was way easier then the chat, but was'nt meant to set up a conversation. Not as functionnal. We were able to publish kind of "Hey there! Sabrina available all day, 613 XXX-XXXX" 2-3 times a day. Unfortunetly, because of technical difficulties, shout out box project had to be dropped, and so did the buisness... MOD, you may realize, by our threads, that buisness is slower then ever before, and some of us have to quit the game because of lack of advertising... I know there's a lot of reorganization on CERB right now, since there's all those crashes, but also those new sections we can find all over the site... Would it be possible, for us, SPs, to do a poll on who would like to have it back? Not only for the ladies, but for the general community?

etasman2000 15994 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 Another suggestion would be to setup a Cerb RSS feed or twitter account.
Grass_Hopper 18263 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 The point of the shout out box was to be able to see who was available with the phone numbers without anymore clicks, Etas... There was a lot less of no shows, since the essential of the information was right there, so guys were able to see if their regular SP was up or working... Setting a Twitter account requires more people involved, such as ass holes that are lurking and fooling around... Including kind of people I do not want to meet... Also, it was way easier for the clients, since you did'nt even need to click anywhere... Buisness was double if not triple as it is right now... I have my website and everything, but not all the guys are going around CERB like you do to find the info. In fact, not much are doing it...
etasman2000 15994 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 The issue with the ShoutBox was the Flash component was heavy on the server. Technically the twitter idea is to have a iframe with twits update displayed for #cerb. To post anyone logged in (or restricted to any SP logged in) would type into a textbox and it would appear on #cerb tagged with a cerb handle. Some programming required though...... Grass_Hopper 18263 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 But BASICLY the same thing? WOULD BE GREAT! For myself, I would be ready to pay to have it back... Personnal messages are way better to me then banners...
Guest s******ecan**** Report post Posted July 27, 2010 Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully it could be restored. Anything that helps the ladies has my support.
mod 135640 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 It wasn't a flash issue it was a constant connection to the DB hitting it 1000's of times per second (It was a badly written Mod - that we tried - it was a free mod that someone wrote and made available - not written by me) and it worked fine on slow traffic forums... it just works horrible on busy ones like this. You can poll as much as you want but until either (1) a new solution becomes available to replace it that does not tax the server (or database) or (2) we sell enough banners to generate some more money in the budget for stuff like custom written modifications such as this one... not much I can do. They never fixed the shoutbox problems in the original free script unfortunately as it was build in a way that it required all those database connections. It was making pages on cerb load 10 times LONGER and was not worth the trade off in performance on the site. Any VB experts out here in our members... if you have a solution let me know!! I would love to put back a shout box too! Until that time my hands are tied.

mod 135640 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 anyone who is looking for banners just pm me. the link for the rates is at the bottom of all the pages. the banner designs are free if you purchase the year as well but I usually do them for the indies for free personally if they do 3 or more month ( if I have time ) p.s. sorry for the vb reference... vb (vbulletin) is the core software that runs the site. 72Nova 116 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 p.s. sorry for the vb reference... vb (vbulletin) is the core software that runs the site. Would plug-ins/add-ins/modules/widgets be done in PHP?
mod 135640 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Yes.. php. Here is the link to the original shoutbox mod http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=182945&highlight=shoutbox
Andee 220524 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Thanks for educating us about the complexities - would be great to have, but as the old song goes "you can't always get what you want". I will give the banner idea a thought - have never had any feedback about how effective they really are for generating more business. Anyone?
mod 135640 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Any advertising you do in any high traffic place is effective in some way. It may be branding or may be hit traffic... on cerb it's also a way to support the site. If your placing free ads on the site and enjoying the features of the site the banners are a way to show support and keep the site going and improving. EC and LE pretty much cover all the costs of cerb.ca (Servers, bandwidth, my salary and a few extra's when needed) any revenue from the banners is ADDED to the budget for extra's so every bit counts.... and yes the guys click the banners. Those little side 120x60 static banners seam to be doing very well (Much better than the top banners). I don't want to do what many of the other discussion sites do (Charge the ladies to purchase advertising to use the site) we want the ladies to use the site for free and we think the more ladies who use cerb.ca the more guys will visit the site and the traffic will trickle over to LE and EC (And it does very well so far - enough that our budget is covered here on cerb as the traffic remains high enough to justify the expense). These sites do take a LOT of money to run and maintain. I really should push the banner advertising but I don't. I am not a sales man and I don't want people to think I am pressuring them into buying ads. I would rather see the ladies buy ads on escorts-canada as they will get a much higher ROI on the page ads on EC than the banners on cerb (ROI = Return on investment) as escorts-canada has WAY more traffic than cerb does.... but if you love cerb and want to support the site the banners are here to show your support. etasman2000 15994 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 One suggestion is to have us Hobbiest gift an ad similar to what went on during the Haiti Earthquake. Perhap ear-mark part of the proceeds to SP friendly organizations like POWER or Stella.
