Guest S**a*Q Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I'm very spiritual, and normally never, ever debate religion... However, one day I was approached in Thunder Bay by well.. I like to call them undercover Christians, or Ninjehovas. *(Like the ones that come to the door, but these guys just creep up on you in normal clothing..) Me and a friend were sitting in a park, just hanging out, minding our own business and these two guys come up.. We thought at first they were either cops, or a gay couple... It started off like nice nice conversation then, they went on about what was going on in the Christian world. I'm pretty polite so I took it for a little, then they got onto the 10 commandments. (I was raised Catholic, practiced paganism while a teenager and young adult, yet now believe in the Buddhist ideals of Karma, and that keeps me going. :D ) They proceeded to list out certain commandments to see how it affected my life and based on that assumed that I'd be going to hell ;) Here's how that played out... Christian #1 says: Have you heard of the 10 commandments? *(He did most of the talking, his buddy must've been learning the art of ninja-religion from him) Sara: Yeah, I was raised Catholic. C#1: Oh good, so you know the 10 then... So let's say, have you ever lied? Sara: Yes, I guess I have. C#1: Well that makes you a liar. Have you ever killed someone? Sara: Haha no... C#1: Well anger is like murder, have you ever been mad at someone...? Sara: Ummm, yeah I would think so, and then that... of course, makes me a murderer...? C#1: Yes but God can forgive that... Have you ever stolen anything? Sara: Yeah, when I was younger... C#1: Well that makes you a thief. Have you ever committed adultery? Sara: Well... (I laugh here...) I suppose I have, and that makes me an adulteress. But... I guess I'm worse than that, if I'm what Mary Magdalene was... *Awkwardly long LONG pause from C#1 and #2* Sara: Yeah, I'm a whore, as you would so put it... *(My buddy who's sitting beside me is struggling not to laugh, he knows me ;) hehe) C#1 (composes himself and says): You're not going to heaven. Sara: I'm very spiritual, I do believe in something, and I believe in people But I'm an escort... So.. if I do good things my whole life and give everything I can to everyone, while believing in myself... I'm still going to hell? C#1: Yes Sara: But if I accept God into my life... *(I'm gonna blah blah blah this part as it went on for quite some time... lol, I know religions, that interests me.) Long story short, after about 30 minutes of frustrating conversation (the frustrating being on their part ;) haha), they handed me a big silver coin that had the 10 commandments on it, and said, "Have a nice day, we'll pray for you..." as they got up and walked away... I hold up the coin and yell, "Does this count as a get into heaven free card? If it does, thanks, I'll prob need it." ... I still have the coin ... wpg2010 203 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 The person talking was probably the junior, the more experienced watches and mentors the one doing the talking. The only way to learn is to do. They at least were not hiding what they were up to. Sounds like a clumsy way to get people to listen to their message. Most Christians (followers of Jesus - not organized religious types) would try to sell you on the positive reasons for their faith, not the negative (my way or HELL). Lowdark 5613 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I have often thought that if Jesus, Mohammed and even Buddha were to come back today, without any doubts in anyone's minds, the first thing they would tell us all would be to calm down and relax. The next thing they would tell us is that we probably got it all wrong. I'm of the opinion that if the Jewish Yahweh or Christian God or Islamic Allah truly exist, they are probably a lot more forgiving than we would ever think. And a lot less bloodthirsty/violent. They're also probably very disappointed but have great senses of humour (how else do you explain Britney Spears?).
Guest s******ecan**** Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Hopefully it doesen't offend anyone but in my books man created god not the other way around. I accept that everyone has their own believes and I believe strongly in their right to those beliefs. What I don't support is when people attempt to force those beliefs on others. Capital Hunter 18263 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Yes I agree everyone is entitled to her/his own beliefs. I disagree that there is or is not a God. It is not a black and white thing and no one can prove it (beyond reasonable doubt) one way or another. If there is no God then where everything is coming from (okay Big Bang - Where did the energy come from to explode and form this huge universe. Not to mentioned all the mysteries of life and how everything is so mysteriously syncronized for life to exist and continue (For example earth must be at the exact distance from sun to be at the exact temperature to support life, or be of exact size to have the required gravity not to mention water and oxygen, (yes there are billions of planets and statistically a few are possible candidates but then just think about all those billions of billions of planets are formed by themselves!!!) not to mention how complex and mysterious living bodies of all species are designed and how organized and syncronized and mysterious hundreds of organs, and billions of cells are in millions of species in every single specie is for each life to continue). Not to mention the mystery of life (as no one yet discovered) and soul (if you believe in soul). Yet again to debate on the other side, If there is God, where is he and why there are so much injustice and suffering in the world??. One thing is for sure, if there is, he is too kind and forgiving to burn his children in hell for just not believing that he exist. Another thing for sure, some people are using/abusing religion for money and power and to justify their own evil deeds. Actions/deeds are by far more important than belief. Do we not see all those damn clergy or their followers who pray in the morning and order mass-murder in the afternoon. They are all believers. If they go to heaven, I rather be in hell than to be with those murders in heaven lol. In summary, evolution for sure (proven scientifically beyond reasonable doubt), creation a possibility that no one can prove otherwise beyond reasonable doubt.
