Guest N***he**Ont**y Report post Posted June 27, 2015 Ottawa Police Sgt. Rohan Beebakhee has been ordered to turn in his badge but he could stay on the public payroll while he appeals his guilty verdict on insubordination, corrupt practices and deceit charges. A secret relationship with escorts and his unathourized use of police records were "in direct conflict" with the Ottawa Police Service, disciplinary hearing officer Terence Kelly said, imposing a sentence meant to end the 25-year career of a cop he said damaged the Ottawa Police's reputation. "The public cannot be expected to respect the law if it does not respect and believe in the dedication and integrity of the police service," Kelly said. "Thank you, sir," Beebakhee said after Kelly read a 17-page ruling at Thursday's Police Services Act hearing. It was the only thing Beebakhee had to say. He turned quickly and left the hearing room. His lawyer Bill Carroll said afterward he will appeal the decision to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. "No significant weight was put on the exemplary service this officer gave Ottawa Police for over 25 years," Carroll said about the grounds for an appeal. When Beebakhee was convicted of the Police Services Act charges in 2014, police board lawyer Christine Huneault argued dismissal was the only suitable penalty. Carroll, however, argued a demotion to constable would have been an adequate penalty. Carroll said they have 30 days to launch an appeal. Filing the appeal stays the penalty - meaning he would stay on the payroll until the appeal is heard. Beebakhee was paid $109,935 in 2014, according to Ontario's so-called Sunshine List. http://www.ottawasun.com/2015/06/25/...ts-must-resign
cinelli 22184 Report post Posted June 30, 2015 Escorts is no big deal and might have been dealt with. That's just newspaper sensationalism. Improper use of police records is a HUGE issue. Dollars to donuts that is why he got suspended. There are many cases of cops looking up information for criminal associates. Montreal cops have provided the mafia and bikers with detailed information on rivals that could be fatal. This guy has looked up info on almost a hundred people. Some of them were escorts, some were escort's customers, others were co-workers of people he had grudges against. Trying to dig up dirt on a Crown Attorney shows he is not smart at all...who'd have thought that would come back at you eh?
