PistolPete 61421 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 Ontario to CL end prostitution ads Module body 2 hours, 57 minutes ago By Keith Leslie, The Canadian Press ADVERTISEMENT TORONTO - Ontario says it's only fair that the online service .......... stop carrying ads for prostitutes in the province under its erotic services section, just as it has done in the United States. Three Ontario cabinet ministers signed a Sept. 14 letter to .......... CEO Jim Buckmaster applauding the service for agreeing to requests from attorneys general south of the border to shut down links to prostitution-related ads. The Ontario ministers noted the website has not taken similar action in Canadian cities, where there are still hundreds of ads offering sex in exchange for money. "While we applaud .......... for the conscientious response to the requests for assistance from our American colleagues, it has come to our attention that at present, none of these initiatives have been taken with .......... sites serving Canadian cities," the letter reads. "We respectfully ask that .......... immediately take the same initiatives with its sites serving Ontario. This is a simple matter of fairness." Ontario residents deserve the same protections extended to those accessing .......... sites in the United States, added the letter, which was signed by Attorney General Chris Bentley, Youth Services Minister Laurel Broten and Community Safety Minister Jim Bradley. The province said Buckmaster has not responded to the province's month-old request, but an email from a public relations firm hired by .......... said their Canadian lawyer had responded to the province. ".......... will continue to support the efforts of law enforcement in Ontario and all of Canada," said Susan MacTavish-Best. She did not say whether or not .......... would shut down its erotic services section in Canadian cities. .......... agreed to shut down its adult services section in the United States after an open letter signed by 17 attorneys general, and after two young women sent another open letter to .......... founder Craig Newmark saying they had been sold for sex through ........... The open letter from the states argued that .......... should shut down adult services to "end the misery for the women and children who may be exploited and victimized by these ads." The American attorneys general said that illegal ads on .......... created a "virtual certainty that someone will be victimized." Benjamin Perrin, author of "Invisible Chains: Canada's Underground World of Human Trafficking," said Tuesday that street gangs are behind many organized prostitution rings across the country. They bring in girls and young women from around the world ? or other Canadian cities ? to work in the sex trade, he said. One of the first people convicted of human trafficking in Canada, Imani Nakpamgi of Toronto, used physical abuse to force two underage Canadian girls to sell themselves out of Brampton hotels, and even branded one of them with his name, said Perrin. Court heard Nakpamgi advertised the girls on the Internet. The Ontario government said .......... is uniquely positioned to lead by example and to exert influence over other advertising venues to follow in its footsteps. "We are aware that .......... has recently expressed its commitment to being socially responsible, which includes aggressively combating ... human trafficking and the exploitation of minors in respect of adult services advertisements," wrote the ministers. The province said it would continue to support organizations that provide services to victims of human trafficking and child exploitation. "We are working to ensure that vulnerable individuals and our communities are protected, both in the real world and online," said the government's letter to ........... Guest s******ecan**** Report post Posted October 13, 2010 It will be interesting to see if CL takes a wait and see approach in light of the recent court decision striking down parts of the prostitution laws.
tiimde71 176 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 I am more concerned about cl being used to enable the abuse of women. As a hobbyist I enjoy the company of ladies but assume they are willing participants. I will only see independent ladies and try to ensure they are willing. How can we ensure we are not doing harm in finding pleasure. Comments?
Guest Ou**or**n Report post Posted October 13, 2010 Astounding isn't how some of the seedier elements of prostitution never existed until that darn CL came along and enabled it. They would be stupid to eliminate CL as it has become one of the most central places for ladies to advertise. Being central also means it is easier for LE to keep their finger on what's happening. Shut it down and 5 other sites will spring up. It is not illegal to advertise such services and CL might only bend to the wishes of our enlightened leaders because they have so many other popular ad categories. The services that will replace it won't care about letters from MPP's and would probably love the publicity. Already in Quebec their are a couple of other sites that are probably already more popular than CL. Other cities would just follow suit.

You can be assured, it existed - they just have an easier time advertising, that's all.
tiimde71 176 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 Astounding isn't how some of the seedier elements of prostitution never existed until that darn CL came along and enabled it. Of course it existed no one said it didn't however that does not mean that cl is a positive thing for the business. Honestly I think that the CERB approach where we can get a feel for who we (both ladies and men) are meeting makes it much more difficult for women to be exploited. Ease of advertisement or variety of women are not strong positives when you think if the negatives. Of course the narrow minded and judgmental would shut CERB down. I think that as hobbyists we should be very careful in our use of cl. Not just for our own protection but to ensure that no action we are taking puts another human-being at risk. My short list of self imposed rules are: 1) I only see independents 2) I only see ladies who I can establish a conversation with before hand to get a feel for their comfort level. 3) I have a Cerb first policy. I will see ladies from CERB before anyone not on Cerb. 4) If I find someone from cl at some point that I decide to see I will try to get her to join cerb. 5) I do not see escorts who cannot communicate well in English. Communication is the only way I can screen. I think that as hobbyists we have a responsibility to ensure we do not contribute to the dark sides of this business and the less of that there is the easier it will be for the business as a whole.
