FunJay 139 Report post Posted October 19, 2010 There used to be a place on York Street. Sadly it is long gone -- does anyone remember the place above the Tea Shop? Just down from Kicks Rock Cafe (I am probably dating myself). In between Dalhousie and Cumberland. Was a very convenient and fun spot. I have also heard the legend of a place on Dalhousie waaaay back that was one of the first or maybe the first spa in Ottawa. I think it was called Tempes Spa. Tempest Spa? Anyways, sorry I don't have anything to add -- but if you are in the Market, you are very close to both Vanier (Michele's) and Centretown (Studio 2000, Jade, etc)... DavidLetterman 100 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 Tokyo Spa?
johnnybgood 200 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 The year was 1998 when there were many spas in the market. The one above Tea shop moved to Orleans, and has gone since. There were 2 ladies operating massage in Clarence street before moving to 25 York street, private massage, after 2 years, moved to vancouver. back 2 years later across Barefax. Tokyo spa was only exist for 2 years at the most I believe. There were 2 massage parlour in dalhousie and also a massage parlour in Cathcart street, last only 3 years. In my opinion they all gave awesome service, unlike today, waaay too many and the service is hit and miss.
Megan'sTouch 23875 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 I may be incorrect about this, but I recently read the City of Ottawa bylaws regarding licenses for massage parlours. I noticed they had to be a certain distance away from residential areas and strip clubs. I'm not sure if this may be a reason for the lack of massage parlours in the market. johnnybgood 200 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 Megan is right. There is no way massage parlour be in residential neighbourhood. As for the distance from other establishment I am not sure. But again there is a parlour right there in Palace road in Vanier, right in the middle of mixed environment (residential, commercial). I am confused. Ever since the bylaws were changed in Ottawa, I doubt anything will qualify for a license in the market area.

toine 30556 Report post Posted October 20, 2010 Triple A spa is right above the playmate lol :PMaybe they pay off the city officials? /shrug when there are new bylaws, it typically means existing 'rights' will be respected/grandfathered; permits may not be sold, and new permits will not be delivered...
