In a year characterized by violence and tragedy, this latest stood out to me as especially appalling.

About two weeks ago, I watched a blaze of fireworks with my children in my own community; a night of simple, innocent delight in something beautiful in the sky uniting the gaze of people of all ages, ethnicities, creeds and backgrounds.

Thinking tonight of the victims and their families.
