Despite the fact a superior court decision may bring about changes to Canada?s prostitution laws, York Regional Police is continuing to enforce existing ones.

Friday, 27 people were arrested in Markham and face 75 prostitution-related charges in connection with an investigation of Delux Club at 980 Denison Street, in the in Denison Street and Warden Avenue area.

Police say sexual acts were being performed in exchange for money.

Just before midnight Friday, officers executed a search warrant that led to the arrests and charges.

Three Toronto homes were later searched, as was one on Dawlish Avenue in Aurora.

Cash and documents related to Delux Club were seized in those raids, police said.

Of the 27 arrested, five face charges for being bawdy house keepers including exercising control, keeping a common bawdy house, living off the avails of prostitution and possession of proceeds of crime.

Another 15 face charges of being an inmate in a common bawdy house while seven are charged with being found in a common bawdy house.

Police believe other women may have been involved in the operation and are asking them to come forward as they are victims in this case.
