blacklabdog 3049 Report post Posted January 10, 2017 http://www.houstonpress.com/news/backpagecom-shuts-down-adult-pages-citing-censorship-9097475 Every "Adult" page on the site now reads: "The government has unconstitutionally censored this content," followed by a hyperlink to Backpage's "Media Resources" page. Backpage's decision to self-censor came hours before its current and former executives were set to testify before the U.S. Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. At issue are the company's controversial adult advertisements, which lawmakers and other critics claim are responsible for acts of prostitution and human trafficking.

Phaedrus 209521 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 Less polution on the Net... A lot of providers in the US will suddenly be wondering where the hell this month's rent is coming from, and how they're going to feed their kids. I don't think that's something to celebrate.
Exotic Touch Danielle 31734 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 So does what does that mean for us in Canada? The same thing? That's sad...yes alot of us do provide for our families and way of life with being able to advertise on there This is crazy
Grass_Hopper 18263 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 It is possible to still post an ad. It is Never necessary to use vulgarity to describe services. Even a French girl like me can post decent stuff. Nobody on Lyla is allowed this kind of language, and buisness is still very good. Btw, the category is still there. Only, all the ads with illegal content are removed. Sure, there is something to celebrate, and is absolutly not related to the amount of buisness done... Only the illegal ads are gone. Good thing...
Exotic Touch Danielle 31734 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 Not all ladies do use vulgar language in their ads ... and I do not see any ads being posted in that section in the US
Nicolette Vaughn 294340 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 In the U.S. their term "censored" must mean that section has been removed. Going in my backpage account, I checked to see for the hell of it as if I were someone who was going to post a new ad in the U.S., the adult entertainment section isn't even listed so no ads can be posted there. If the adult section was there yesterday, it's not there today. I've also noticed that when you click on Ottawa backpage, it redirected me to "ottawabackpage.ca" which means they are also protecting themselves legally under the .ca domain. Up until now, I've never seen the .ca extension but then again, I don't use backpage much.
waterat 20911 Report post Posted January 11, 2017 So lyla moved from cerb.ca to lyla.com in order to avoid C-36 problems.... might this mean there is room for a POSITIVE space like lyla in the states? While I don't wish any hardship for sex workers who rely on backpage (specifically in the states) maybe there are or could be alternatives. If I never see another lyla post with 'Any info?', 'Has anyone seen this lovely girl?' (with the fake pics), 'Anyone seen her?', it will be too soon. I know, I should just ignore them, and I do once I've opened them. Admittedly these are often posted by folks with only 3 inane posts all on the same day, newbies and occasionally those who should know better. TinEye, google image search and The Cowboy's Diary are each our friend. Do your homework and due diligence... Good god gentlemen we're on lyla for good reason - we need to invite reputable ladies to join us. OK, Rant over. Back to the thread. As Phaedrus pointed out above this backpage situation may be a challenge and required quick adaptation for workers in the states. Additional Comments: I typed c e r b . c a above but it was automatically changed to lyla.com in case my initial statement made no sense.... which, as posted, it didn't! lol
Guest *tt**amal** Report post Posted January 11, 2017 It sucks and hopefully it doesn't make its way down here. I'm sure when Craigslist dropped their adult ads it seemed to be the end of the world then too. Those in this line of work are crafty and I'm sure will find other ways to advertise their services. Daisy Mae 2693 Report post Posted January 12, 2017 There are other options certainly, but women living on a tight budget and not sadly being introduced to any other form of site to advertise were put in a very difficult place- as many of the other advertising options would take a few days and/or money to register for them, and then re-building a client base and getting immediate business is a bit more difficult on other sites than it is backpage. It'll likely also be difficult for casual backpage gents to learn and trust other place to advertise, as backpage was quite well known for being an easy place to find and sell those services. So that's my concern, that women/gents casually invested in the hobby may feel there's no other option than streetwalkinng, which is incredibly dangerous and susceptible to LE intervention. /: I believe backpage shutting down may turn out okay but it's going to hurt a lot of workers in the process.
fortunateone 156618 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 Many immediately started posting in the dating section, which leads me to believe that they were using that section as well in many cases already. Possibly to attract different clientele, possibly because it would be a cheaper if not free place to post ads. Like when CL was shut down, day by day escorts found another way to advertise and stay busy. i do hope that those clients and escorts together stop relying on just one single ad location, and branch out a bit more onto other sites. it's the only way to lessen the immediate impact of this kind of action. waterat 20911 Report post Posted January 14, 2017 to lessen the immediate impact of this kind of action. Hopefully they'll migrate to lyla or its' US analogue....
