Guest Report post Posted May 8, 2019 Remember the decade of TV shows after the bra burning movement of 1968? Many actresses were boycotting the use of bras. I often watch old sitcom's on CHCH and it's hard to ignore the obvious poking nipples through thin dresses, blouses and t-shirts.

Guest Report post Posted May 9, 2019 Remember when "Speedo" scarred a generation from the late 70's to early 90's with their inappropriate swim briefs for men? And also with mixed bad of the ladies one piece classic swimsuit that would turn completely transparent once wet.

Bobby Keys 39 Report post Posted October 28, 2019 Porn was a high art form shown in movie theaters (late). My first porn star crush was Marylin Chambers and “Green Door”, but my memory of the closest thing to a full budget Hollywood porn was “Caligula”. Those were shown in theater because it was before the VHS/Beta boom of the late 70's and the beginnings of cable TV. Once people could see those at home, there was less incentives to continue shooting on film for theaters. As for "Caligula", it was a high budget exploitation movie produced by Penthouse. But I agree, Marylin Chambers was hot.
Bobby Keys 39 Report post Posted October 29, 2019 Hi, Thanks for the perspective. I understand that exploitation is and may always be a problem with porn. It’s not just porn - power and money - Weinstein / Epstein - Hollywood and the music industry all suffer from the money / power perversion. The sins in the making of Caligula fall squarely in this category in my opinion. “High art” may have been poor wording, but relative to shorter format works, at least there was an attempt at telling a story or saying something - if poorly and only for pretext. I guess I miss the pretext (and it was only ever pretext) of saying something more than “jerk away fellas”. VHS kind of killed that. Reading Roger Ebert’s review of “Green Door” ( he slammed it because It devolved to graphic sex, loosing the plot), I agree with his lamentation that Stanley Kubrick didn’t make a full length porn. That may have actually been high art - A Clockwork Orange with a psych-sexual plot without using camera angles to maintain an R rating. if you know of anything that will stimulate both the big and little head, let me know! I’m always looking for interesting things that make me think. This long winded post is the result of yours making me think - I hope it is received in the spirit of dialog with which it was written. Also, thanks for taking the time to post the pics. She really was special, and one of the pioneers of women porn stars “owning it”. She kind of defines my “type” - girl next door with a natural body and a bit of bush who is uninhibited and knows what she wants when the cloths come off. Guest Report post Posted October 31, 2019 It's hard to ride the line between porn and art as sexual elements need to be part of the characterisations and relationship between characters to not feel gratuitous. And with the layer of realism and grittiness the end result is not always sexy. If you watch movie like "Lie with me"(2005), "9 Songs"(2004) or "Nymphomaniac Vol.1&2"(2014), most of the sex scenes are graphic and very uncomfortable. If looking for inspirational material, better stick to porn or softer erotic movies made to trigger your imagination.

While I did enjoy the soft porn in Caligula, I think a softer erotic movie like 9 1/2 Weeks should be included in your list. Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger were amazing. I miss seeing connections like that.

Guest Report post Posted November 4, 2019 On 10/29/2019 at 6:56 AM, Bobby Keys said: More succinctly, I miss the notion that porn could be “high art”. As a last word on this sub-topic, too many movie producers and directors have used "art" as a way to make material that would normally put them behind bars. A few were charged and prosecuted. But too many got away after producing pictures that could only be described as child porn. And not always in obscur art films, as some were backed by major studios with A-list actors/actresses. PS. Don't pm me to know what movies I'm referring to. I won't promote those pigs. Find yourselves, it's not that hard. The only example I'll use is "Last Tango in Paris", a perfect example of manipulation to create and promote a movie. While true the movie had some production problems, a lot of it was either exaggerated or made up. The director fueled many of the urban legends that made the movie such a controversial success. Like the actress(Maria Schneider) was 19, not underaged. The infamous "butter rape scene" was not real. And the movie didn't kill her career. The truth was that the sex scenes were not in the script draft she received when auditioning. And at the time didn't knew she had no obligations to perform those scenes, as not part of her contract. She didn't communicate with a lawyer or her agent and reluctantly did the scenes. There no denying the director exploited her inexperience, but she was not raped. As for her career, she was obviously typecasted and had to refuse many erotic roles including in "Caligula". But she did over forty roles in movie and TV productions. And as those were mostly French, German and Italian, few North Americans seen her after. She sadly died from breast cancer in 2011 at the age of 58. Guest Report post Posted April 16, 2020 Remember when Mike Holmes was not a living joke? While(so far) didn't live a real fall from grace(like Don Cherry), his name is not what it used to be. In the first years of HGTV, his larger than life personality and no nonsense approach to home renovation made him a Canadian symbol. But in an attempt to keep the show interesting, the teardowns became ridiculously larger and the rebuilds complete overkill. This wasn't helped by many contractors exposing the complete inefficiency of tearing down half a house for problems easily repaired in a few hours and the true costs of what was seen on TV.
