A***** A***** 510 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 I am looking to register my own domain name. No idea where to go. I would also like to forward my old site address to the new one. Right now I am using escortsite.com and they charge a bit too much for my liking. Is there anything I can do about it?

Cowboy kenny 50799 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Go daddy is pretty cheap, for domain but you'll have trouble hosting adult content with them, they are very prudish about adult content, even though they advertise those sexy commercials with Danika Patrick taking a shower with another girl! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ILqDb8iTxA Name bargain is a reliable registrar, I've used them for years professionally and personally. Hostgator is the best affordable adult hosting provider I've found, excellent customer service and very helpful. Avoid anything to do with netfirms, they used to be really good but they've changed ownership or direction in the last 4 years and do not provide great support, their rates are over the top and they will try to charge you more for adult content. Carrie Moon 68826 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Kenny what kind of trouble for adult content? I've had all my domains over the years hosted by them including my members site. Never had any trouble... Should I be concerned?
Cowboy kenny 50799 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 The trouble I encountered was with an escort site a few years ago, there was no nudity and the text was very tame it was clearly an adult site, but still they came after us looking for additional fees and just a lot of hassle, they still hosted the content but were dicks about it. Then on another project and because I already had an account set up with them I set up an adult merchandising site, they shut it down right in a matter of weeks. Every thing was legit but they said they wanted no part of it. In the end the issue was some "enhancment" products the site was offering that supposedly went against the TOS, which had been revised or changed during the time we set up shop. Instead of shutting us down they could have advised us of the problem with the items and we would have removed them. The other issue with them is they don't have a published toll free number when in fact they actualy do have one 1-866-463-2339. They'd just rather not pay the costs on it I guess ? I don't know I've not been happy with them or their customer service. But glad to see that they've treated you well! I've moved to hostgator and other providers since. But for domain registration they are likely the best as they always have some kind of sale or promotion going on!
A***** A***** 510 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 Many thanks for the replies! For simplicity's sake, I am going to stay with what I have now. They include "private registration" at no charge.
qwertyaccount 15793 Report post Posted January 1, 2011 A domain name registrar and a host are two separate things, although plenty of companies will do a one-stop-shopping bundle. The registrars, where the domain name is registered, shouldn't/couldn't care less about the sites content. The host, where the site is "physically" located, can care because of bandwidth/traffic concerns, their moral standards, etc. Once you have a domain name (e.g. whatever.com) registered, it can be pointed to any host, and moved to any other host at any time without needing the cooperation of the old host. This is different than porting your telephone number where everyone has to be in agreement. Hope this helps more than confuses.

A***** A***** 510 Report post Posted January 2, 2011 Got the domain name done up. I though the old domain traffic would have been forwarded to the new one. Looks like that is NOT the case. Bah! Anyone familiar with how the escortsite works with that?
SamanthaEvans 166766 Report post Posted January 3, 2011 My website is hosted by JustHost.com. They are very escort-friendly and quite inexpensive, too. I've been with them for three years with no problems, and really good tech support when I've needed it. I bought another site awhile ago from GoDaddy for some of my paintings and immediately had problems. Someone tried to hack into the gmail account I'd used to associate with the new site. They tried so persistently that Gmail suspended the account, then told me that one of the major source of this kind of activity comes through GoDaddy. It seems that a lot of people use the same password for everything and the leak via GoDaddy hopes that's the case with new sites. That was a few months ago, so it's just a warning to be careful! qwertyaccount 15793 Report post Posted January 3, 2011 he just copy and pasted this special they are offering. I think a URL would have been better but this is not an account from godaddy posting ads here! he has 23 other posts!!! Great eye for detail! I copied & pasted the Go Daddy e-mail with the discount code, just trying to help.
Carrie Moon 68826 Report post Posted January 5, 2011 godaddy regularly sends me discount offers.. but hey.. one domain is plenty for me. 30% off is this weeks special.. they only cost 10 bucks/year for a .com and recently for fun I did a group site and bought a .info for a buck! most of the specials are dependent on other purchases anyway..
