I think you're better off to simply stick with exchange of money. To barter services is not in the Lawyer's (or yours) best interests. Ask to see the lawyer's credentials. Good luck!
Boomer 33202 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 This is not the way to get good criminal legal advice that you can rely on. I would be leary of a lawyer and his ethics that accepts sexual services in lieu of proper above board payment. If you were to have a problem because you relied on such advice there would be no recourse. If you spend a couple of hundred for a brief meeting, the lawyer then has established an obligation and liabilty to you the client. If you are short of cash I'm sure there are resources through either non profits or social services here in Ottawa to get the advice you need. If you go this route I'm sure that there are others here to point you to these resources. Good luck

waterat 20911 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Hey Karine: you've received some good advice so far in this thread. It may also be worth your while to simply go through the yellow pages to find lawyers practicing in the area of the law you need advice in. It won't cost you anything to get a few preliminary questions answered that will help you make a decision.
Mc Lovin 797 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 I agree with the above - your best bet is to stick to a standard legal type scenario and pay the 3 bills or so an hour .. I have some experience in the clientele side of legal proceedings and my advice is to stay away from the firm Dewie Chetum and Howe .. :)
Capital Hunter 18263 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 My thought would be to go through yellow pages or even better Google search internet for "Ottawa Lawyers". It may be useful also to type in your problem to find lawyers experts in that area (criminal lawyer covers a lot but some are specific in certain areas. So type in your problem in the search like personal injury or wrongful dismissal....). Then the next step is to form a list and email those with a description of your problem. A certain percentage of lawyers (those with bigger hearts or more time to spare) will respond with legal advice. I have personal experience with this. I sent emails to 10 lawyers I found on the net about a legal issue I had some years ago and 3 responded with legal advice, free of charge. I know it may appear a long shot, but it worked for me and it won't cost you anything. Good luck.

Capital Hunter 18263 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Sorry, I thought you need legal advice rather than a lawyer. I am sure that there are plenty of people with big hearts on this board. I hope that one of them is a lawyer and would contact you to help you out. My best wishes.
mustang19671967 100 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 THERE are different types of criminal law. If you give a little more info i.e) driving under the influence, theft, drug possession etc some have a better knowledge or specialization in those fields, but again it will be between $300 to $500 an hour. You can always go to the Ottawa court house and see the duty council, it is free and maybe can recommend someone or the law school at Ottawa U sometimes have referals
Amanda Bella 421 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Karine! Just go to a University where they have a Law School department and ask to talk with someone who might be sex work friendly. Usually the department have a unity to help the general public and it is free. I also have a friend in Montreal who used to be a high end sex worker and now she is a Lawyer. I am sure if you contact her and say that you are my friend she will answer your questions for free because she used to be a sex worker. She is very very helpful, trust me.
