Mister T 45020 Report post Posted January 15, 2011 There are more pressing matters for the church than giving attention to a war on names, in my opinion, like promoting help to third world countries (help shouldn't just be coming from governments). Civil and state authorities do a good job of maintaining a check on names. I'm not sure if i would call the current church and pontiff progressive ... This makes me wonder if some parents have good sense when naming their child, even if they want a more original name or contesting established order, such as those cited in Loralee's posted article? Kubrickfan 12836 Report post Posted January 15, 2011 There is absolutlely nothing wrong with the Pope, as part of a homily given at mass in the Sistine Chapel, and within days of visiting a Children's hospital full of very ill kids, urging parents to give their Children christian names. This is the quote, I think: "Every baptized child acquires the character of the son of God, beginning with their Christian name, an unmistakable sign that the Holy Spirit causes man to be born anew in the womb of the church." Many of the comments attributed to the Pope were actually spoken by other bishops, but (no disrespect intended) I dont disagree with those either. Its always possible to offer opinions on what the church should be focusing on, but if we keep chipping away on what's expected of catholics, I think the chruch would be lesser for it. ... and ... smile ... dont get me started on guys walking around with pants down to their knees.
