Cash is King and always will be, if you can’t take my word I am showing up then you dont need my business that bad, sorry but that’s the way I feel, never In my 30 yrs have I ever ripped anyone off.

That's an easy thing to say and chances are you're a man of your word. But there are MANY men out there happy to cancel or no show and never send a dime after leaving a SP with a bill for a hotel room. Without references or any other info from a prospective client, there is absolutely no accountability. I understand the hesitation on both sides and it puts everyone in a challenging position. At the end of the day it's easier to search through a SP's online presence and determine that they're legit/reliable than it is to hand over your own personal info, no? And if a lady has an excellent reputation to uphold, she's not going to run off with your deposit money and risk all that. 🤷‍♀️

The only other issue with E-Transfers that I can see being a bit of a problem for some ladies is the "paper trail."

Please, lets not turn this thread into another debate about whether or not SP's pay taxes but I think we can all agree that there are some who do and probably more that do not.

CRA has the authority to audit your bank accounts and if you were ever to get audited you would need to explain all these e-transfers.

While the average citizen has a very low chance of being audited unless something in their return falls well outside the "means test" for people in their income bracket, there are times when CRA gets tip from a disgruntled ex or someone else with an axe to grind.

I have a friend whose wife had a on-line business selling crafty items and she never declared the income.  She thought she was being very careful not using her real name on the site and going through a 3rd party seller's site.  I think it was ETSY.

They got audited a couple of years ago on a completely unrelated issue and CRA stumbled across all these Paypal deposits into her personal account.

Long story short they ended up getting nailed for several thousand dollars in back taxes and penalties.

In response to the above IDK if this said to scare people in accepting a deposit or what?

I could only speak for myself but I claim my taxes, when I book a "date" I always put them in my calendar with the deposit they gave as a reminder to myself. Also I put all my bookings under excel ready for tax season. When I collect a deposit its usually between 40 to 100 bucks depending on the length of booking. I think there may be assumption that us SPs are claiming like 100k tax free, that's just not the case at least for me anyways. Just because we work in this industry doesn't mean we see like 5 to 10 guys a day every day. Its just not like that especially when this SESTA-FOSTA came in affect.

At the end of the day its the SPs business on how they want to conduct business and if someone doesn't feel comfortable they can find someone else who fits their comfort level.

Here's a code below for those SPs who may want this info

Industry Code https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/sole-proprietorships-partnerships/report-business-income-expenses/industry-codes.html  Under; Entertainment or recreation Other personal services (including Online psychic, escorts, dating, party planning, personal shopping) - 812900

I love it when people chime in and they obviously didn't take the time to read my entire post.

If you look at the very second line of my post, I quite clearly state that some SP's do claim taxes but you are delusional if you think there are not a lot that don't.

The main point of my post was to warn ladies that e-transfers can be traced and discovered by CRA if you are ever audited, so those who do not file or pay taxes but accept e-transfers, may want to think twice.

And believe me, as someone who owns a business and has actually been audited, having an Excel spreadsheet with a bunch of fictitious names on it (I don't think many of your clients give you their real name) and an amount in the next column doesn't mean much to CRA.  In my experience they will actually contact the client and verify the work done and the amount paid to you.

But it sounds like you are doing it all by the book you so you have nothing to worry about.

No I read all of what you wrote, I said FOR ME I claim my taxes. I posted the Industry code for others who maynot be aware that they can too.

A lot of us SPs are educated, have worked or are working in the "civie" world, for you to educate us on something like this is like saying we are dumb. Its not your job to educate us on our business, stick with what you know and we'll stick with what we know.

We all know about government and taxes and everything else. This is 2018 no duh banks take note of everything.

Again if someone doesn't feel comfortable giving a deposit thats up them.

Stop trying to scare or bully people from doing their job the way they want to.

Have a great evening.
