Vineland man sentenced for transporting minors in sex trafficking ring

VINELAND â?? A sex trafficker from Vineland who last year admitted to running a prostitution ring involving both minors and adults in Atlantic City was sentenced Friday to 188 months in federal prison.

Javon Gordon, 29, who used the alias â??Teflon,â? pleaded guilty in August 2010 to two counts of transporting minors across state lines to work as prostitutes for him.
Each count of carried a maximum penalty of life in prison. The mandatory minimum penalty is 10 years.

He will serve 15 years and eight months in prison.

In addition, U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler sentenced Gordon to a lifetime of supervision upon release. He is also required to register as a sex offender.

According to the United States Attorneyâ??s Office, Gordon admitted that from September 2007 until July 2008, he ran a prostitution ring in and around Atlantic City, acting as a pimp and employing both juvenile girls and adult women to work for him as prostitutes. He admitted to controlling the activities of the women and girls working for him, including requiring them to give him any money they made from performing sexual acts on customers.

Three girls recruited by Gordon solicited prostitution clients on the streets and in various casinos in Atlantic City, as well as on the Internet. Gordon used a digital camera to take naked, partially-naked and sexually-suggestive pictures of the girls, then posted the images on various websites, including Craigslist, in an effort to advertise prostitution services.

Gordon also used Craigslist to assist in his efforts to recruit girls to work for him as prostitutes.

He also admitted to traveling from the Atlantic City area to Philadelphia in order to transport a girl back to Atlantic City to work as a prostitute. In addition, Gordon admitted to transporting an adult female and a girl between the Boston and Atlantic City areas to work as prostitutes.

Gordon was arraigned on Oct. 20, 2009, for charges of operating a child exploitation enterprise that engaged in sex trafficking of children, sexual exploitation of children, distribution of child pornography, transportation of minors to engage in prostitution, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

According to the indictment, Gordon organized and managed a prostitution ring that operated in Atlantic City and other U.S. cities including Washington, D.C., and Boston.
