Police laid 23 criminal charges in a two-day john sweep in Vanier and arrested 18 men, including a convicted sex offender who fled from police. He was quickly recaptured. Police said 13 men arrested during the sweep on Tuesday and Wednesday qualified for a pre-charge diversion program, which includes John school to teach them about the effects of prostitution on the community. The other five men face several charges, including communicating for the purpose of prostitution, mischief, solicitation, drug possession, driving with a blood-alcohol level over 80 mg and breach of probation. Jacques Rouschop, a convicted sex offender, was arrested after a short vehicle pursuit. He was scheduled to appear in court to face charges of failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, resisting arrest, theft, breach of probation and driving with a suspended licence.
