Hardwood floor refinishing.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had this done? I am looking for recommendations on who, in Ottawa, does exceptional work.

Please, do not PM offering to barter your services. I am strictly looking for recommendations and perhaps some stories about your experience!

Thanks!!!

You local hardware store, or paint supply store should be able to provide you with some sort of list of contractors that do this type of work (Home Depot for example).

Ask lot of questions know what you are getting in for. Good contractors have been in business awhile, enjoy what they doing. They should be knowledgeable about their job and this should come across, both when you talk to them and when you read there written quote. Good contractors will not avoid questions, or give you a line of BS.

Good contractor are alway busy.

When the job start check in on the progress, do not jsut walk away and stay away until they are done.

Good luck

hope this helps

best bet it to contact a hardwood flooring company...get them to do it......if you use Home deopt.....they use sub contractors and are not responsible for thier work....and they go through them like fire.

contact a flooring specialist...that way you will get proper quality

I agree with Antlerman. Dynasty flooring for example, did an excellent job with installing flooring and carpeting in my townhome. They deal with good contractors, because they want to maintain their reputation.

I installed a hardwood floor in my house. As long as you have the right tools, it's pretty simple job. It looks better if you sand and stain after installing it. If you compare it to pre-stained you will see the difference.

Some of the big box hardware stores will offer free seminars on how to instal flooring.

I had a whole different concept of this thread when I read the title.

:bigclap:So did I!

Seriously, I refinished the floors in my house when I lived in Toronto. It's a big job and more incredibly messy than I expected. I'd get a flooring company to do it for me next time, for sure.

If there's going to be sanding, beware of the dust ... it goes everywhere! Dont forget to seal up the vents and returns in that area.

Use a professional hardwood flooring specialist. This is not something that should be undertaken by "novices".

Use the Yellow Pages or Internet and do a little research, find a couple of companies that interest you and do a little research. Check with the BBB and ASK for references and check the references, even go and see the work if you can.

When we look for an MP or SP, we usually start with CERB, checking into the ad's, reputation and references (recommendations) and then make a choice.

Treat your search for flooring refinishing the same way. I can provide you with references to companies that I do business with on a regular basis. I would post them here but MOD might not like it, so PM me instead and I will help you out with them.

Lord is this ever true!!!

A friend did not take advice to seal up vents.....and even plastic off any stairs and cupboards.....

dust travels up!!...dust gets in every thing......

any room not being done should be sealed off with plastic......vent directly to the outside with an old fan.....

I have done floors......alot of floors.....install...finish.....re-finish....

It also helps if you just turn the furnace off so the air is not circulating through the system. You may not want to sleep there when the varathane is done as it can be quite strong. All the advice about going pro is good.
