Guest Report post Posted January 1, 2019 It's definitely a sad and tragic story, but I'm not really surprised most media outlet just ignored it. To be honest, I never head of her before reading this. Most news medias will ignore stories that won't appeal to their target audience. And with the topic of suicide and a porn actress without a connection to mainstream news and entertainment, it's not surprising it wasn't covered. Sadly, this is not just a porn thing. Many similar tragic stories don't make the news. Even Youtubers with a few million subscribers rarely make the news when they die, disappear or involved in a major scandal. I sympathise with her friends and family and hope young women looking to join the industry will read this story and learn from it. May your soul be in peace forever. I stumbled on August Ames work last year by accident, while I was searching for something else. I didn’t realize she’d passed away until I read this article... This story is both uplifting and tragic in a multitude of ways. On the surface, you have a young and impressionable local Nova Scotian leaving the confines of small town life to find fame, fortune and love in the big city... a typical fairytale, or is it? In L.A. She became part of a community of fellow actors who looked out for one another. Yet it would be members of this same group who would play a part in her untimely demise. If you look a bit deeper, it’s not so much a story about porn as it is about the failure of societal safeguards to keep pace with ever changing technology. Cyber bullying is now a universal problem which has the potential to affect anyone, although the young are particularly vulnerable. Add mental illness into the mix, and a dearth of readily available medical professionals to offer assistance, and you have powderkeg waiting to erupt. Could this young lady’s life have been saved with the proper intervention? I don’t know, but I wonder at the untold possibilities in a budding life if it had... a life now tragically cut short. I hope if nothing else, stories such as these offer pause for thought, and to that end - reflections on the consequences of words in a tweet, sent by the push of a button, behind a wall of anonymity.... On top of that, there are problems in the adult industry in regard to men and protection. I listened to podcasts of porn actresses and many mentioned the pressure of doing scenes without condoms even if the industry is suppose to promote safe sex. And when men struggle to make careers from str8 porn, many will also do bi and gay films. With the increased risks, we can understand why so many porn actresses will limit themselves to women on women and solo performances. But likely due to August's lack of communication skills, her tweet was misinterpreted as homophobic and sparked the chain of event that lead to her suicide. For a really great read, check out a book called “Between The Sheets - Rise Of A Working Stiff” by Logan Pierce. It’s a first hand account of what it’s like to transition into the porn industry, and the accompanying highs, lows and numerous pitfalls that exist. I got mine shipped direct, and Logan even autographed it for me! It’s a book you won’t be able to put down once you start reading it. I’ve also seen it for sale on Amazon. Alternatively, you can also order it from Carter Cruise (porn starlet) on her website: cruisecult.com

Here an interesting video from a former porn actress who explains a lot of the problem of the industry:
