Isabella Gia (Banned) 53881 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Ok people I was just having a conversation with a friend about this and it made me curious on the topic. Besides the typical coffee, dinner and movies what other activities you consider ideal for a first date? Any experience you'd like to share of a great first date? Mister T 45020 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Some quick ideas .... A light lunch on the market, a walk through the shops (it's nice to see what the other person is interested in), maybe go to festival activities when they are on. A short visit to a museum, if there is interest (the art gallery for example), High Tea (5 o'clock tea) at the Chateau Laurier. A theater piece, but you don't get to chat during it, only after ..... MiaBella 10988 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 I think fun active things are a great way to get to know a person. Hiking through a park, or biking. If your a dog owner, going to a dog park can be fun. I've even had a first date doing a yoga class and then grabing a protein smoothie after. It's good to pick something where you can talk, but can still get preoccupied doing something else (In case it's not going too well! :icon_eek:)
Winnipegcub 21293 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 I think opportunities always exist, just need to do a little research and know whats around/available and might be of interest. I might try a summer festival arts/music and maybe add on a picnic in the country side. In winter again many things exist including; skiing, hiking. Other options can be more volunteer events like children's X-mas toy wrapping. For me the key is to find something that might interest her but still allow us lots of opportunity to build up a chemistry.
April Dawn 12207 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Mm I had a great first date the other day, we had some great mixed drinks (perks of dating a bartender) then he made me a delicious supper and we watched the original 3 Star Wars on the couch with his great dane. It was so good because socially we have known of eachother for 2 years and watching movies and talking together just gave us that chance to see who we actually were outside of public view. Gabriella Laurence 301887 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Interesting first dates I've been on in the past... The two of us met at a park, put on our inline skates and followed the cycling path along the canal to get to the old port of Montreal. The first time we had a pinic by the water and the second time we enjoyed a great meal on a terrace with a few drinks... Another interesting first date was an afternoon by the swimming pool and a BBQ later on... Also a great time! Skinny dipping is a wonderful activity :) Edited April 14, 2011 by Ga*****la L****nce spelling

A movie date is thw worst for a 1st date, you sit their for 90 mins with someone you don't know. i suggest aplace where you can talk, other ideas are museum, work out at a gym doing exercises side by side so you can talk, casino, during the summer a dance cruise on the ottawa and gatineau rivers more to come
stevecurious 42059 Report post Posted April 14, 2011 The last time I had a first date was when I first met my wife. We were set up on a blind date so I had no idea what she liked AND I only had 24 hours to plan something as she was going out of province shortly thereafter. So with some quick thinking and a lot of hoping and praying I managed to put together a first date. When I first arrived and presented her with the roses I had purchased I told her to take "a comfortable pair of shoes" with her. I told her this as we were going horseback riding through the woods and along the beach of one of the national parks here on PEI. After we had finished it was onto a round of mini golf and water slides at a local theme park. The date concluded with me cooking her dinner and confirming the day of our second date. Nathalie L 112512 Report post Posted April 15, 2011 I agree that movies aren't the best for first dates...! If there was chemistry over dinner, or at the very least, in the line up to purchase movie tickets, then it dies while you watch the movie and you're left with the awkward "Ok....see you later...I had a great time...yeah..." moment! My ideal first date is doing something both of us haven't done before. Rock climbing, hiking in Gatineau Park, seeing a show at the BlackSheep Inn in Wakefield, or driving up to Merrickville. I love the website www.ottawaevents.org for random stuff that's happening around the city. Facebook is really good for that too (random event invitations always inspire me fore date ideas!) I think the best first date I ever went on was a random day-trip to Montreal. We took an early greyhound and spent the day doing random things in MTL. We ended up seeing a really awesome concert that evening and then took the 11:00 p.m. bus back to Ottawa. Awesome, random, full of adventure, and gave us ample opportunity to talk and get to know each other better!
SamanthaEvans 166767 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 I had a great first date two weeks ago with someone I've known for a year. He brought groceries to my house and cooked dinner for me. I helped (it's my kitchen, after all). We had a lovely time getting to know each other better. Last week we had dinner and went for a walk around English Bay. Having lots of time to talk and share experiences and ideas is very important to me.
jughead 45 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 Best first date I was on was, a walk to get a icecream cone on a nice spring/summer day. Worse first date I was on Blind date A friend want to got out with a girl, but had no wheels so he set up on a blind date with a friend of his girl. To make a long story short.......met at a bar, two bouncer's took their turns feeling my date up on the way in, every guy in the place seemed to know her, she was dirty dancing with every guy in the place and left with 2 of them. Her friend said "oh that just normal for her" oh really I said, I got up and told my friend that I was leaving and going home in 2 minute if he wanted a drive he was to be in the car, or walk the 3 hour drive home. He meet me in the car, he was not please but understood that I was pissed.

NotchJohnson 214123 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 To make a long story short, it was lunch time and I was at a chip wagon in my hometown when I noticed the aunt of my ex-girlfriend, so we chat a bit and she introduced me to a sexy hot blonde. Fast forward two weeks and I get a call from the aunt of my ex, asking if I wanted to go on a blind date with that hot blonde, so I agreed. I was nervous and met them at her place(double date) we went for supper and I had forgot my wallet so she was happy to pay for me which I felt really bad so I decided to go back home after and get my wallet and headed to a local sports bar were we drank and danced all night and I paid everything. Not so bad for a first impression. I knew she had feelings for me and wanted to give her a better impression of me. The following weekend I picked her and her son(6 years old) and took the bicycle to Montreal and pedaled on the bicycle path and then went to the botanical garden and a nice meal the three of us. Guest **cely***r***ne Report post Posted April 16, 2011 I cant remember the last time I had a date... LoL But if the opportunity arises...A nice nature walk along the Cobequid Trail (it goes across Canada) and stopping for ice cream would be good enough for me. In my opinion, I think the more simple the first date the better. Save the extravagance for the second and third date.
Winnipegcub 21293 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 Completely agree Angel. Best first dates are about getting to know each other...then follow up dates are great for shared exploration and adventure. But after a few, always good to go back and share the simple things. Ie make a 10th date feel like a 1st one again. Never a bad time for a nice summer hike and picnic. In my opinion, I think the more simple the first date the better. Save the extravagance for the second and third date.

Paradise Spa 24019 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 The best first date: Being cooked a homemade din din and dessert. Yummy. It is sentimental and I love simplicity. The thought means more to me than anything.
rickkm 328 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 The first date has to be short while at the same time allowing room to expand if the date is goes well; you hate to go somewhere and you're totally not comfortable and people look at your forehead with which by now has a huge sign on it saying "somebody please help me" or "someone please end this", or simply "HELP".....not good moments....lol..... and I have had some of those!!!! Mister T 45020 Report post Posted April 23, 2011 A great date idea for those that are in Ottawa or visiting. Preferably it requires a touch of planning (i.e reservations are preferred)..... Going for afternoon tea at the Chateau Laurier can be a really fun, relaxing and luxurious date while having a light snack, as little sandwiches and pastries are served with tea. You can get to chat quietly and get to know one another without struggling with a large lunch. It's perfect on a nice sunny day as you can walk downtown or along the canal.
