mod 135640 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) We just got a new advertiser today (Banner up top) and this was the first time I had heard about these guys so of course I had to check it out. I am aware of second life and other 3D virtual worlds but I was intrigued by this adults only one. I signed up for a free account and I was rather impressed with the graphics and function of the system and how you can modify your character to look the way you want (Not like the old avatar stuff on sites like thepalacechat and others). It is primarily a chat board with a 3D interface... it even has profiles (MySpace type of profiles - and some of the profiles are filled with a lot of personal dirty photos) Now cybersex isn't my thing but from the website it has virtual escorts and private rooms where people can get naked (and apparently do the dirty) and it does seam to bring a new side to the virtual cybersex thing. They appear to have paid virtual sex workers that you can virtually hire. You can walk around in the virtual world, go to porn stores, strip clubs (where you can dance with other members - seamed to have a lot of girls dancing with each other)... and of course you can chat and explore the world. I played with it for a few hours to be honest as if it catches on it may be something we would consider advertising in as well as it is a very interesting concept. It does have some quarks (some person was bouncing over buildings so they either hacked it or made some mod or something) and it does have a charge to go into the private rooms or pay a virtual escort (No I didn't try it... maybe someone who has can post here)... anyway I just thought I would share and some of you may be as impressed as I was with this virtual sex world. Here is the link if your interested.... if anything click the link and check out the screen shots (it's rather crazy) www.redlightcenter.com If you search the website you can find a area with video showing the adult private rooms (looks like you have choices for positions and it is almost enough to buy the membership to the adult stuff just for laughs - this is not an affiliate banner or anything so we don't make commissions off membership signups so I am not trying to solicit anyone to pay for memberships in fact I didn't buy one myself so I can't even tell you if it's worth it or not) but the main system with chat is free and was worth the download to check out. Someone even introduced themselves to me (another member) and showed me around a little within the first few minutes of appearing in the system. I did have to download and install a program to my computer (and it was a big download) so you will too if you want to check it out first hand and explore the system - anyone out there like my who plays 3D video games like warcraft or have played with second life would know what a 3D world was actually like but for those who have never tried it you will probably be pretty impressed... especially if you like to chat ad it does open up a entire new demension to online chatting. Nicole Kelly 130 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 When you click the link, the url changes to http://social.redlightcenter.com/?trq=468cerb2 Is that an affiliate link?
mod 135640 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 It is a tracking link but not an affiliate program. They are a paid advertiser here (Banner up top in the rotation) and this is a tracking code so they know if the advertising from cerb.ca is working for them or not. We do not get a commission or any kickback from people using the site. If they get enough traffic I am sure they will continue to renew the banner however (and every bit of sponsor revenue helps this site as it covers some of the costs). Nicole Kelly 130 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 That's a great idea - maybe they can tell which individual banners are working best that way too. I signed up for the site, although I don't know how much time I'll have for it, it looks like fun. It even has "guides" to show you around!
mod 135640 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 Yes, the guides are volunteers from my understanding and they get some sort of credit for assisting the new users (or they get a special rank or something). It appears to be a way to really make it pull together as a community. Most big sites do have link codes to track advertising like these guys have. The problem with the link codes is that search engines give high rankings to pages by link popularity so having a different link from every site you end up loosing a lot of link popularity weight. I prefer to have a program on the server that monitors the website people are coming from. Web servers can record where all inbound traffic comes from so a good server side log parsing program will remove the need for the special link codes.
