Zigzag00 7 Report post Posted May 11, 2020 Executive bath shut down and fined 2500 by health authorities. Maintain social distancing not worth the risk.
foofer 217 Report post Posted May 11, 2020 Were they fined for being open before the 4th? Or is it in the interpretation? Effective May 4, and at the further direction of their respective regulatory bodies, regulated health professionals, such as dentists, dental hygienists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, optometrists and podiatrists will no longer be limited to providing urgent and emergent care. In addition, individuals who provide therapeutic massage and acupuncture services may resume providing those services. It looks like Johnny Law is calling them a bodyrub so they're not included in phase 1.

From the CBC report, "The health department's report on establishment closures does not list a reopening date for the business, which it describes as a body rub parlour." I wonder if they targeted EB specifically because they refused to close to begin with. Curious to see if the others get shut down. Wonder if there will be any recourse against those who patronized “body rub” places during this first phase. A lot of grey area
foofer 217 Report post Posted May 11, 2020 I don't think they would go after clients. They were there for a massage and massage is listed in phase 1. They'd have to prove you knew the difference between therapeutic, relaxation, or whatever kind of massage. The wording doesn't mention RMT's or anything. Isn't EB a city licensed body rub? That's maybe how they got nailed. Crystal and the like have massage in the name. Semantics is a bitch. All I know is I don't want to be on the table when they barge in and ask "Is that a therapeutic handy j or an amateur rub?".

nearandfar 497 Report post Posted May 13, 2020 Public Health Officer: OK, mamasan, we're going to have to shut you down for failing to comply with the special measures prescribed in the order issued by Chief Public Health Officer Mamasan: No, no, no. We do acupuncture! Public Health Officer: Then, mamasan, why are you....the one getting poked? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uW47jWLMiY

MonorZ 201 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 No worries, Trailblazer. I agree that current times are risky. I thought you were referring to all of the places we hobbyists have been frequenting and was wondering if you had a special connection. lol

hopeful 1357 Report post Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) My understanding of the difference between Bodyrub and Holistic is that bodyrub doesn't necessarily infer or suggest a therapeutic type massage or a requirement that the masseuses be licensed or certified in massage. However if I went into EB and asked for a therapeutic massage experience I'm sure the girl would provide it. I believe EB should contest this fine in Court. They provide a massage service. In some cities like Vancouver and Toronto a Bodyrub license can cost A LOT more than a holistic license, in Toronto a bodyrub license costs over $ 10,000 per year. Does anyone know how much a bodyrub license in Winnipeg costs? So was EB warned to shut down and then they refused and then the fine ? https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/special/coronavirus/salon-body-rub-parlour-face-fines-for-violating-covid-19-restrictions-570367522.html Edited May 15, 2020 by hopeful

So it's a matter of Enforcement, maybe Diamonds will escape but it's only because authorities are turning a blind eye, by shutting down one it's effectively "a shot over the bow" Isn't EB a city licensed body rub? hopeful 1357 Report post Posted May 18, 2020 hope this clarifies things as it does for me somewhat, according to City of Winnipeg, a Bodyrub is not considered a Therapeutic treatment, so that category is not named to be allowed to open yet. from: https://winnipeg.ca/cms/BLES/LS/business_licenses/body_rub_practitioner.stm A body rub practitioner is an individual who provides or offers to provide: Body Rubs for a fee The definition of a body rub practitioner does not include: A medical or therapeutic professional who provides massages as part of medical or therapeutic treatment and who is currently registered or otherwise entitled to practice under the laws of the Province of Manitoba A massage therapist An individual who carries on a business or occupation that is limited exclusively to massaging of the feet, hands, head or face A Provincially certified esthetician who administers massages as part of a skin care treatment, where the massage is for the purposes of product application and is a minor or incidental and secondary part of the treatment a Body Rub Parlour: https://winnipeg.ca/cms/BLES/LS/business_licenses/body_rub_parlour.stm License Fees: https://winnipeg.ca/cms/BLES/LS/business_licenses/licence_fees.stm Effective January 1, 2020 One-time Bicycle Registration $6.88 (GST included) Bicycle Dealer $481.00 Body Rub Parlour $4,970.00 Body Rub Practitioner $364.00 Converted Residential Dwelling $635.00 Converted Residential Dwelling with Shared Facilities $790.00 Escort $364.00 Escort Agency $4,970.00 Flea Market $605.00 Hostel $548.00 Independent Escort Agency $2,480.00 Precious Metals Dealer $950.00 Shared Facilities Dwelling $538.00 Temporary Trade Show $630.00 Used Goods Dealer $1,350.00 Used Material Yard $758.00 so a Bodyrub Parlour or Escort Agency is looking at almost $ 5000 for a Business license per year so a $ 2500 fine hit is like the license fee for 6 months ! livenudecats 4072 Report post Posted May 19, 2020 Diamonds was open during the outbreak but closed last week on the heels of the EB fine and closure. Probably decided they didn't want to get fined either.
hopeful 1357 Report post Posted May 20, 2020 you can't be serious, you mean Diamonds was open during April ? cause you know what might happen now, now that the Government knows these spas thumbed their noses up at the laws, they'll make sure they don't open till the end of the very last Phase like maybe September or later. When the city asked people to close (e.b did close), but they did open up that one week I heard to soon ( I think they assumed they fell into that category by mistake or who knows). But they did remain close the whole time before that ( from what I was told ) 🙂
