drlove 37204 Report post Posted June 20, 2011 If the court of appeal upholds Judge Himmel's decision and the laws surrounding prostitution are struck down, would it create an impetus for enterprising individuals to fill the void left by prominent brothels of days gone by? I'm thinking of back in the day when places like Park Avenue and Gentlemen's Club were in operation. No doubt the owners of these establishments made a tidy profit. I for one would be ecstatic if an upscale incall/outcall agency were to open e.g (one that treats the ladies with dignity and respect) since it would provide variety and ease of booking appointments. Furthermore, there would be no second guessing if a lady is legit, as is the case with many of the new independents, who sometimes turn out too good to be true. For instance, if one knows a certain agency is reputable, then one may be reasonably assured that the ladies working for them are reputable also, by default. While I love booking appointments with independents, I miss having a tried tested and true agency to call when the mood strikes me. Thoughts?
Summer Meadows 1676 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 Hi drlove, I would LOVE to open an agency in Halifax. In fact I've looked into it, but until the laws are changed I don't dare risk it. It would be such a shame to do all the hard work that goes into making a great place with great people just to have it shut down by LE. (Like all the others in Halifax) I'm crossing my fingers that someday soon I will be able to get started on the best agency ever. A nice clean upscale place where the ladies and clients feel safe. It sickens me to see girls working on the street. My heart really breaks for them.

It would be a great thing for the laws to be relaxed, somewhat along the lines of the Australian model, for instance. It would be a win-win situation for everyone involved. I feel that over the last two decades, HRM has adopted an increasingly conservative view where dealing with the adult entertainment industry is concerned. It's a real shame, since I feel the concern is not warranted. I long for the days when Halifax and Dartmouth were much more wide open cities, so to speak. I feel this is why former incall agencies were able to thrive as long as they did. Moreover, their business practices never hurt anyone, and they pretty much kept to themselves. It would be nice to see that again. Hope it works out for you!
harboursmoke 3087 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 I'm with Summer as well. And I think a good upscale agency would be very successful around here. Posted via Mobile Device

While I agree that decriminalization and legalization are definitely the way to go, my understanding is that the Australian model for the business is not nearly ideal. I saw a documentry about the group that tried to set up the incall site in Vancouver and after their visit there to study the way it works, they came away with more notes on what not to do. I think Summer's got the right idea. Open an agency BY the providers, FOR the providers. No one knows better what pitfalls need to be addressed and how to improve things for everyone then the men and women who provide service as independants and current agency staff. Granted we're not as large as major centers like Toronto; however, I'm surprised that we don't even have one or two. I.e. ( something along the lines of Select, or Cupids). We have a population somewhere around 250K we should be able to support one or two top quality agencies.
