SamanthaEvans 166766 Report post Posted October 1, 2011 I'm glad you like it, ladies. I was pretty impressed, myself. Sometimes professional associations and licensing bodies don't pay attention to the things their members get up to. Academic freedom and all that, right? Phaedrus 209521 Report post Posted October 1, 2011 Sometimes professional associations and licensing bodies don't pay attention to the things their members get up to. Academic freedom and all that, right? Academic freedom does not include the freedom to completely disregard scientific method, or to piss in the Fountain of Truth the way Farley does. Unfortunately flakes who ignore reality to try and prove a politically-motivated point drag everyone down with them and bring science as a whole into disrepute, and it is very much in the interests of professional associations to prevent this as far as possible. I'm fine with people doing this if they're honest and claim to be no more than a politician or a lobbyist or a campaigner; they have no right to claim any sort of scientific mantle or the authority that conveys, and the scientific community absolutely needs to ensure this does not happen.
