Okay, the circle closes.

Mel Torme was once the drummer for Benny Goodman.

Benny Goodman was a protege of producer John H Hammond.

John H Hammond was probably the most prolific producer and talent scouts in the history of recorded music in the 20th century.

Hammond was instrumental in sparking or furthering numerous musical careers, including those of Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Big Joe Turner, Pete Seeger, Babatunde Olatunji, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Bob Dylan, Freddie Green, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Arthur Russell, Asha Puthli and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

So.... here is Bob Dylan - Knockin On Heavens Door

I went a knockin' on Heaven's door just to check out the place for future consideration. You wouldn't believe the monthly fees they charge there. May have to look into other options. Anyway I digress.

Whilst there I see Ms Etta James is unpacking her things and who would be there helping her out but Otis Redding. To make a long story short, he offered to sing a song in tribute to Etta and the fact that tomorrow is her birthday. Johnny Otis, who helped launch Etta's career, was busy preparing for her birthday festivities and could not be reached for comment.

Alright.

A short one.

Otis Redding was the premier artist for STAX Records in the mid 60's.

Atlantic was a pseudo parent company to STAX, and "lent" the label "Sam & Dave"

Sam & Dave were the quintessential soul duet, influencing countless acts... specifically:

Blues Brothers - Soul Man

Soul Man was actually a huge hit for Sam & Dave - but was even larger for the Blues Brothers...

Speaking of Cocker....

He of course won his Grammy for his duo with Jennifer Warnes.

Jennifer Warnes was best known for duos with everyone, including Bill Medley.

Bill Medley was of course the low voice in yet another duo, the Righteous Brothers.

The Righteous Brothers biggest hit was "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"

This is their other hit....

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

The Blues Brothers were John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd

Well Dan Aykroyd was born in Ottawa Ontario, Canada

And although he took US citizenship, he maintains Canadian ties by living in

Sydenham, Ontario, on Loughborough Lake (a rocky shoaly lake btw, but that's the boater/fisherman in me talking LOL)

Sydenham is on the outskirts of Kingston Ontario

Well a well known band comes from Kingston Ontario

Here they are, singing about another Ontario town

Well my happy ending in Bobcaygeon wasn't the type you are thinking about

I launched out of Bobcaygeon to go fishing Pigeon Lake for muskie

Caught my biggest muskie there...44" x 22" muskie...trophy size for Pigeon

So with that thought in mind...here's Big Fish Rap, apologies ahead of time

If it's ok with everyone here, I'm going to ignore the fishing theme as I suspect that is a shallow pool of songs, so to speak.

Instead, I'll run with the rap parody theme. The best crossover would be Lonely Island's I'm on a Boat but I'm going to go with Flight of the Conchords instead.

Well aren't hippos and rhinos animals from the jungle?

The Beach Boys sang about jungle animals in this little song

In The Jungle The Mighty Jungle (the Lion Sleeps Tonight)

(the lion being another jungle animal)

I suspect this will be the only time I post Bruno Mars in this thread.

However, it is catchy, and it's about *ahem* lyin' around all day.

Sorry to be a nit picker and I do love the Beach Boys, but this is The Tokens version from 1961 of a Solomon Linda song dating back to 1939.

Speaking of token, I'm sure Mr Buffet would recall settin' around just

One Toke Over the Line.

Brewer and Shipley.

Chuck Connors lost his stripes for the accusation of being a coward in the U. S. Cavalry.

He was Branded.

Calvin Harris has recently become popular on this side of the Atlantic,

but if you delve back into his disography, you'll find this one, which seems

quite fitting for hobbyists:

Nikki Sixx was a member of Motley Crue

He was also a member of Sisters with Blackie Lawless

Blackie Lawless was a member of several acts, most notably the New York Dolls

Blackie Lawless doesn't have anything to do with these guys, other than a name.

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings - Stoned

This is also the only non-Warren Zevon song I know of to mention werewolves in the opening line.
