Guest tr*****e Report post Posted October 4, 2011 I love Family Guy's satirical humour, but I wonder if I should boycott the show after seeing this? Input, please.
Meg O'Ryan 266444 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 To be perfectly honest, since NO ONE is immune to the rantings on Family Guy, I just find this par for the course. I love the show and it's take on freedom of speech. Shoot me if you will but I have a somewhat warped sense of humour. I can appreciate that this show is offensive to many, but bid you to not condemn me for my sense of humour! :) Hey, if you don't like it, don't watch! PS...I laughed!
castle 38816 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 Yeah it's pretty offensive.....I didn't even crack a smile. And Family Guy usually has me losing my shit with laughter....but then again....it IS Family Guy after all. If it's not offending someone then it's not doing it's job properly. I wouldn't take it too seriously. And it is a deleted scene after all....so even they probably thought it was going too far. So I wouldn't hold it against them. Meg O'Ryan 266444 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 Oh, and before someone mentions the fact that children may see this...a good parent would never allow it. Plus, with all of the childproofing on the tv and internet, there is no reason why they should. Only poor parenting would allow this!
VedaSloan 119179 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 It's offensive. I stopped watching that show after humour went out the window and it became all about being "funny" because of random, unrelated BS flashbacks or whatever. In my opinion, it's just lazy to write jokes that rely on various cultural stereotypes--be they racial, gender-based etc. There are ways to write comedy that is hilarious without actually denigrating or dehumanizing any particular group.

Meg O'Ryan 266444 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 This is what is so wonderful about living in a society with the ability to express themselves. You have the choice to read, view, listen to what you want and either agree, disagree or sit on the fence. We have the right to decide and hopefully not be judged. (at least I know I don't judge) Not everyone should have to agree nor feel they should agree to gain acceptance! I love our right to diversity!
bcguy42 38594 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 I love Family Guy's satirical humour, but I wonder if I should boycott the show after seeing this? Input, please. To boycott or not is your decision. If you are looking for affirmation that the scene is sick and twisted, Okay, I agree with you. But has been noted. FG is FG and the decision to watch or not rests with each viewer. If they ever call me and ask me if they should expand on this theme, I would suggest no, they not.
Maverick 2873 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I used to think it was a very funny show for the first few seasons but I think it has been getting progressively worse and worse. I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago because of that, it never offended me though, my sense of humor is also quite offensive & morbid, but I try not to actually offend people irl. roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I have a slightly bent and burnt sense of humour, just read a few of my (well not really mine, I just post them) jokes But i don't watch FG...know about it, but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea But this clip, kinda squeemish watching it, really don't find it funny, even remotely funny Just me RG
Nicolette Vaughn 294340 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I have never watched this show and never had a desire to.. That clip was stupid.
Old Dog 179138 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Meh. Family Guy is what it is. There are moments that are pee your pants hilarious and moments when you just squirm a bit. Every fan has a few "yikes" moments when they think that the show has gone too far but the fan base seems constant. Like Meg said, to each his own. Guest ***t***iv*** Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Oh, and before someone mentions the fact that children may see this...a good parent would never allow it. Plus, with all of the childproofing on the tv and internet, there is no reason why they should. Only poor parenting would allow this! I had to nominate this post because I totally agree with you Meg, parents should definitely censor their kids. I think the net and tv should do it more also, but there is a demand and so, ultimately as always, the responsibility at the end of the day is on the parents. All that being said, I have never been able to stomach that show, it pained me, and I mean pained me, to even open the clip. I have to say I was expecting much worse. I do know that its par for the course of the show. My issue, would be that this is a cartoon, something primarily geared for children. FG and adult cartoons in general strike me as selfish. how can anyone really expect a child to stay away from watching cartoon shows, that on top of everything else, their parents watch? I appreciate the ability of locking your tv channels and programs, and internet security for kids, but I personally disagree with using a child's form of entertainment to circulate material that is intended for adult entertainment. just my 2 cents S
Reuben Sandwich 13841 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I can't comment too much on this as I stopped watching the show when Peter let a knife wielding guy into Geroge Harrison's house. Guest *D E**a Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I love Family Guy too! Own all the seasons. Do they go too far? Sometimes, but it's still funny! Even Herbert the pedophile brings laughs with his zanny behavior.
Studio 110 by Sophia 150333 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 American dad, I find funnier, lol. But truthfully, did not offend me as much as when they push the limit on Mohammad, and trying to create him into an image. I don't think it is wise to push anymore hostility Muslims have with North America than already exists. But it does take alot to offend this girl anyways, heheheh
Code Blue 3585 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 The show is free to be offensive and, worse still for "comedy", completely lacking in humour. In a sense I am not especially surprised at such scenes, deleted or otherwise, as by and large TV continues its downward spiral with respect to originality, style and content. Likewise, I am free to ignore the show's existence as I have for the last few years. CB

capitalman 3861 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I've never watched the show, but that clip was kinda funny. Especially when he goes to drag her inside and says something like "Am I twisted or what?" Doesn't everyone think that about themselves sometimes? Of course it's offensive to women....so are these new cliparts the MOD gave us. :sadomaso::aol_goldenshowers: :aol_asstoass:

I see what you are saying but at the same time, Jesus has appeared at least half a dozen times on FG... so it's not like it's an anomaly. My kids have watched it with me and they both laugh... but they understand that it is truly pushing the envelope.
da2root 871 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 I don't see how that scene is any more offensive then the tons of scenes in the show where Peter refers to women as objects rather than as an actual person. How many times has Peter said to Chris "Listen to what IT says" when talking about Lois...? Or the episode where Peter wants to sleep with Lois' mother because Lois sleeps with Bill Clinton... Or the constant insults that Stewie slings at his mother; I mean in reality I would never say ANY of those things to my mother - I have far too much respect for her. My point is that FG spends more time objectifying women then any other topic, so if I were to raise an issue with FG (and I'm actually an avid watcher, my job has given me a very black sense humour) I think it would be with that rather than any of the other issues. I take all of the insults with a grain of salt - if any of you out there are fans of Avenue Q... "Everybody is a little bit racist" (If you don't know Avenue Q, look that one up and "The Internet is for porn")
