Family Restaurants in Ottawa and Toronto

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I travel often to Ottawa and Toronto but I have not figure out yet where to eat? I am a pretty good cook myself which does not make me a fan of dinning out at expensive spots since, most of the time, I am disapointed (take me to Pied de Cochon any time though, I love it!). In general, I far more prefer small family restaurants own mainly by immigrants where I can eat stuff I have never tried before or that I can't do home cause I lack the equipement. As I was told many time, I am a cheap date:)

If any of you foodies can recommand nice joints in Ottawa and Toronto, I would greatly appreciate. Anything goes with me, as long as it's fresh and it is not too salty or too sweet, I'll try it!

If you need nice spots in Montreal, feel free to ask.

Lou

I live in Sandy Hill in downtown Ottawa and go to a restaurant called Mangia on Dalhousie frequently. It serves a good mix of food from different European cultures. There's also a Belgian pub called The Black Thorn over on Clarence. It's a bit more expensive, they make neat pizzas and various Belgian dishes there. They both have good atmosphere and are never super busy when I've been there.

Lou:

For Italian / pasta try Mama Grazzis across from The Bay in the Byward Market area. They always have a daily special that is always good.

If you like ribs, try Baton Rouge near the hotels around Lyon St. You can sit at the bar if you don"t want a table and order food and a pint.

I have never been disappointed at either place.
