This was the last day of the Celtic year, when the villagers or clan would put to rest the spirits of those who had died during the year. When the Christian church took over these festivals, today became All Souls' Day, and Nov. 1, the first day of the Celtic year, became All Saints' Day. Cato 160314 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 By the way, the word is pronounced SAH-ween or SA-veen, depending on where you're from in the Gaelic world! :) The final n is close to the Spanish n tilde.
