December 17 International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers

Recommended Posts

December 17th is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. This event was created to call attention to hate crimes committed against sex workers all over the globe. International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers has empowered workers from cities around the world to come together and organize against discrimination and remember victims of violence. Existing laws prevent sex workers from reporting violence. The stigma and discrimination that is perpetuated by the prohibitionist laws has made violence against us acceptable. Please join with sex workers around the world and stand against criminalization and violence committed against sex workers.

We will be hosting a gathering open to all those who support our anti-violence campaign. There will be a few presentations and then dancing after.

Awesome! We are going to have a candle-light vigil, a few singers, a poetry slam by Annie Temple, a couple drag shows and then a dj with some dancing. Looks like there is a pro-decrim leafletting event and a protest at the old police station happening. Lot's going on in Vancouver.

What else is going on around Canada?

In Halifax, Stepping Stone has reported that "Due to lack of resources & as we prepare ourselves for an upcoming trial for a sex worker who was murdered, We will not be having a public vigil for December 17th and have instead decided to have a private observance with our program participants."
