Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted January 28, 2012 Well... I am probably THE most cursed person with computers... My HP laptop's hard drive decided to up and quit on me. :-( Does anyone know of a good place to get this fixed? Preferably downtown since I pass through a few times a day as I'm going hither and tither. Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device

You may be able to recover any files you want from the old one.

Guest Ou**or**n Report post Posted January 28, 2012 Go to FutureShop or BestBuy. Laptop hard drives are around $80 to $100 and they carry them. I'd suggest getting them to install it as they will also need to re-install whatever operating system you have (usually Windows). They'll probably need your Windows setup disk from when you first got your laptop. Alternatively you may want to find a friend to do the installation. Good luck

Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted January 28, 2012 Awesome, thanks, guys! I do not have the CD here (incall), but maybe it's at home. Worst-case scenario I'm sure they'll be able to install Windows somehow. I can't be the first person to lose the disc! Mucho gracias again! You guys rock! :-D Posted via Mobile Device
roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted January 28, 2012 And just another quick thought, the price of laptops around $500.00 now, may be just as easy to buy a new computer. Just need someone trustworthy if you need to transfer files from your old cpu to new cpu/computer Whatever you decide, good luck RG
dgb123 110 Report post Posted January 30, 2012 you could also try spinrite http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm if the disk is still working sort of spinrite will often fix it and save many lost files too.
