Your Greatest Albums....

Recommended Posts

I know this is a cheat but....

I saw them twice, on the "News of the World" tour in 78 and again on the "Jazz" tour in 1980.... I have never been to more amazing concerts... simply brilliant.

What can anyone say about....

Great album from a great band :)

Saw them live a few times, always a great live act, including their final Winnipeg show. It wasn't surprising that we were no longer on their itinerary after someone nearly whizzed a bottle off the singer's head and one of the openers, a band from japan called nicotine, got mugged just outside the venue... Stay classy Winnipeg :(

The shortest song on the album is probably my favorite

Lyrics:

Every interaction tainted with objectification

Does it make you cool to put her in her place

How would you feel if it was your sister

You're a poor excuse for a man

My first classical music album was the Overtures of Gioachino Rossini. My initial interest was to get the music I had heard in some Bugs Bunny cartoons but then I got a real bug for more of the classic classical pieces. William Tell and Barber of Seville were the most used but I love the Thieving Magpie too.

I think I only listened to the first side of this once, but it was side two, their 40's style radio play "The Further Adventures of Nick Danger" that I memorized as well as many of my friends at the time.

Even forty years later if I get together with that gang, someone will use a bit of dialogue from this in the conversation. Classic lines like:

"Hey in there. You're doorknocker fell off."

"What's all this brouhaha?"

"It felt like the hot kiss at the end of a wet fist"

"I'm looking for the old Same place.

You must mean the same old place. It's right out back. Here's the key."

"I spell my name, Danger."

This was a cool album. It came in a thick card box because it had 3 LP's in it.

The cover art is awesome too.

Lots of great songs on here including Wah Wah a favorite song always.

I love the cover of Dylan's If Not For You

Their third studio album. A diverse mix of music styles, with plenty of Morrissey's clever writing, wit and sense of humor evident. Some of my favorite Johnny Marr guitar work.

Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others - "lend me your pillow, the one that you dream on"

Honorable mention for debut album - The Smiths (1984)

One of the best side one's of any rock album, this baby just does not stop. This is my favourite for Jagger's vocals even over the Let It Bleed album. Great finish with Soul Survivor. This is more Keith's record for the musical direction, I just don't know how they pulled it off with all the drugs and what seemed like chaos.

I just had this on the turntable this afternoon....

Supertramp_-_Breakfast_in_America.jpg

Supertramp - Breakfast In America

Every song on this album is special. I fondly remember when it first came out - we were all astounded by just how tight these guys were.... the music was amazing. As I get older, I appreciate the lyrics even more....

Take the Long Way Home

So you think you're a Romeo

playing a part in a picture-show

Take the long way home

Take the long way home

Cos you're the joke of the neighborhood

Why should you care if you're feeling good

Take the long way home

Take the long way home

But there are times that you feel you're part of the scenery

all the greenery is comin' down, boy

And then your wife seems to think you're part of the

furniture oh, it's peculiar, she used to be so nice.

When lonely days turn to lonely nights

you take a trip to the city lights

And take the long way home

Take the long way home

You never see what you want to see

Forever playing to the gallery

You take the long way home

Take the long way home

And when you're up on the stage, it's so unbelievable,

unforgettable, how they adore you,

But then your wife seems to think you're losing your sanity,

oh, calamity, is there no way out?

Does it feel that you life's become a catastrophe?

Oh, it has to be for you to grow, boy.

When you look through the years and see what you could

have been oh, what might have been,

if you'd had more time.

So, when the day comes to settle down,

Who's to blame if you're not around?

You took the long way home

You took the long way home...........

I didn't buy this one until several years after it was first released in 1971. But when I did, I wore it out.
