piano8950 32577 Report post Posted May 5, 2012 15 Minutes While the term 15 minutes of fame was common, the prevalence of how often it occurs now days wasn't appreciated just a decade ago. With Youtube, politics relying increasingly on poster boys and girls and the ever decreasing attention span of the general public, the whole 15 minutes of fame thing is becoming out of hand. There are girls now getting pregnant purposely because they want to get into the show 16 and Pregnant. There seems to be no moral bottom with what people are willing to do, or be subjected to for that glorious moment in the sun. I think this movie portrays that with ruthless conviction. tokan 16826 Report post Posted May 8, 2012 One movie that I saw recently that just blew me away was The Game starring Michael Douglas and directed by David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club). Now I had never seen any trailers or anything for it and was pretty much going in blind but I have to say was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely a thriller and has you guessing at more than one point. I don't want to ruin any of the plot for you but I will say it basically starts off with a rich man receiving an unusual gift from his brother and what follows is one heck of a roller coaster ride. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

tokan 16826 Report post Posted May 12, 2012 This movie didn't do particularly well at the box office but has gained a following as a cult classic. I guess you could say it is another one of my guilty pleasures, but it actually does have a fairly interesting story. And it has Peter Weller from Robocop so not exactly unknown actors either. First of all I should state that no this is not a porn, although I will admit that this would probably make a good title for one, lol. This is actually a parody of the old 70's Kung Fu flicks that were originally shot in Chinese and than dubbed to English. It was actually shot in the 2000's but from what I remember it borrows heavily from an old kung fu movie from the 70's. Now the humour can be pretty low brow at times, but I swear some scenes are just so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh. Nathalie L 112512 Report post Posted May 27, 2012 I believe "A Single Man" is an underrated film. Despite a rating of 7.3 on Rotten Tomatoes, I believe it deserves much more praise. Set in the early 1960's during the McCarthy period, this gay university professor suffers the loss of his long-term partner in a car crash. The director explores themes such as grief, health, fear of the 'unknown', love, friendship, and art. The filming technique is different, and I love the meaning garnered from how the director, Tom Ford, plays with light and colour. It is a slow paced, but incredibly beautiful movie. I'm honestly not sure whether I liked it, but the acting was amazing, the soundtrack was fabulous, and I'm still thinking about the concept itself and what I would do in a similar situation. castle 38816 Report post Posted June 2, 2012 The Crossing Guard, directed by Sean Penn, with the always awesome Jack Nicholson and David Morse, who is one of my favorite actors. No "good guys and bad guys" in this one. We have Nicholson's character whose every waking (and unwaking) thought is about revenge against the drunk driver (Morse) who killed his daughter. So much so that it takes over every aspect of his life and his rage destroys all relationships. Then we have David Morse's "John Booth" who is consumed with not rage, but guilt over what he has done. He can't allow himself any happiness......as with the grieving father, this incident has also taken over every aspect of his life and also ruins his relationships. It tells of two men from opposite ends of a tragic incident but whose pain is remarkably similar. Definitely not a "feel good" movie by any stretch of the imagination but it is powerful and the performances are simply awesome. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Starring Kate Winslett and Melanie Lynskey (Rose from 2 1/2 Men) in this true murder mystery about two girls in New Zealand in the early 50's. A German army platoon is doublecrossed by an officer, and trapped behind Russian lines during German retreat. First war movie I saw in theater with good surround sound, I went back 3 or 4 times. I dragged my Dad to see it and he said it was very life-like, especially the sound of the MG42 machine guns. He knew, as he was a European Theater vet. Blake was married to Julie Andrews at the time, and Julie had the reputation as a rather prudish innocent - hell she played Mary Poppins and Maria Von Trapp in the Sound of Music... in S.O.B. loopie 15358 Report post Posted June 16, 2012 I really liked this movie REDBELT. It's technically about MMA UFC stuff, but it's not a sports movie. It's more of a drama thriller about the mindset of martial arts than about fighting.
