Never mind traffic...OC Transpo's affecting my hobbying!

Recommended Posts

Not much to be gained by this thread but to bitch and satisfy curiosity...but is anyone else's hobbying being affected by this strike? Being someone who doesn't drive and relies on the transit system to get places I find that hobbying is just not an option right now. Not to mention that having to take a cab to and from work the majority of the time is putting a serious dent in my wallet. I haven't even been able to visit my resular SC's lately!

As I said, not much to be gained by this thread, I guess I'm just curious how many of my fellow unfortunate pervs are in the same boat.

I agree with you also on the other side being an SP I have had a couple cancel because of it too.. Time to go back to work STOP hurting those that rely on the buses.

It has been rough mostly because of how much goes to cabs.

Luckily for me my fav decided to move to walking distance for the last few weeks :)

i agree my fav sp lives in summertime walking distance near me. And if it wasn't for no busses. I would have seen her twice, since I last saw her. Winter time a little to far to walk.

I have t save that money for gas money for my family whose been driving me around and also cab fare to get to place. And cabs take over an hour or more. So I could arrive late and it makes it awkward if the person has another client coming.

This strike effects everyone.;-)

I find a lot more SPs are working downtown in hotels during the strike. Can't speak for everyone but the majority of people in Ottawa work downtown, so if you have the time before or after work or my favourite over lunch, you can make things work.

Unfortunately, I can't visit my favourite SPs but this strike has given me a chance to sample other meals on the menu.

Cheers!

The hobby may be suffering, but 0C Transpo is making sure the whole city is getting screwed.

The hardest for me is being a student and not having a car. I use the bus to get EVERYWHERE. Ah well, at least with all this walking my thighs and ass are getting nice and toned.

I am sure that once the strike is over ridership will be down and there will be layoffs, oh well hard to feel sorry for them. And am I to understand that currently the drivers make up the schedule as they go? Or they just don't want to change the scheduling responsibilities from Dude A to Dude B? Either was it is clear that the strike is about money! Otherwise they just drop the raise thing and get to keep the obviously precious scheduling.

Currently/old Union contract, the Union schedules their drivers, so there is of course alot of down time being paid out, while they sit on their ass,not at work.

Full timers top in the seniority list, get to work 3 or 4 days in a week get the best routes, best days off and the junior guys get the shaft, currently the senior F/T drivers can make up to 100k in overtime by simply taking overtime when the junior guys says- I'm sick.

Of course the union loves the scheduling, they get the best of both worlds (except junior drivers)

Since when does a Union dictate the scheduling of employee's?

When I was working for a Company in the private sector I scheduled 200 employee's both Full-time and part-time total.

When my shifts were completed they were handed over to the Union to better the shifts, or match the shifts getting the best possible coverage 24 hours 7 days a week.

The Union would bid of the shifts based on seniority for F/T for a 6 month period, and then we change again depending on requirements after 6 months. Part timers had their schedule for a month at a time and bidded on.

Not once did the Union ever better my scheduling. In management we were the ones dictating the bottom line- cost vs down time.

I feel nothing for these bus drivers and feel pissed off for the city allowing for the mess in the 1st place!

God I'm glad I now work for myself.

There was an article in the paper over the weekend that indicated that it will take years to get back some of the riders lost durin this strike.

I say the City should hold tight...let them sweat it out for a while longer.......

The good of the many outweighs the good of the few

so the City and the riders (what will be left) are the many...the union......the few

It brings a focus back to green living, we should try live near were we work and play. Buses are NOT green although they like to pretend they are. on your next move think a little more about the location, location, location.

Although I hate the busy roads and my employee needs a drive back and forth from home every day, I agree we should not give in to the Union.

Seeing people walking everywhere is very encouraging and interesting. The loud noisy stinky buses are NOT missed.

I realize some people are trapped in their homes, which is not good, so buses must return, but hopefull a lot of people see the light and continue to walk, carpool, ride their bikes or whatever.

It has put a damper on my hobbying. Not worth the hassle of the increased traffic and finding parking. Although I did make arrangements to see my fave at a hotel just outside of the city.

that Sun article is disturbing....I've seen some personal references made in the postings here that would give a persistent investigator enough to track someone down.

maybe I'm just paranoid but......

I do know this, striking over x-mas ruined a lot of peoples holidays the people who ride the bus need te bus. people with cars have the option to drive whereas bussers only have buses.(or cabs) Thanks O town.... That's exactly why live in Que.! Ont. doesn't care. My neighbour told her kids Santa was stuck in N.Y and couldn't get there. spent minimal because she had to pay 4 cabs to work(in Orleans) or loose her job. Do you know how many people lost livelihoods over this. It's damn well evil in my books.

back to business (I have ranted enough).....

I will offer a $20 discount to bussers to cover the cab over....

Don't think bussers is a word....lol

oh well

xoxox Jordan

p.s the article is disturbing because you have to be a member to read the posts....

I guess we could have a spy in our midst...lol

its really not funny though.

No you do not have to be a member to read the threads. You do have to be a member and logged in to view albums, profiles, to make a post or post in the shout out box...

I would say that is the Only thing I actually like about the "other board" where you Do have to be logged in to read... Not that it makes a difference in the end, anyone can be a member...

It just shows how lazy the media has become, the story is written as if this guy had actually conducted some interviews, when all he did was a Google OCTranspo strike and away he went 10 seconds later he was done work for the day.

I wonder what handle Kenneth Jackson of Sun Media, the reporter on the story, uses here on CERB? Mr Done Quik?

To subscribe to the community would have doubled his work load. However I wonder who he made a date with? After reading the reviews it would be interesting to see who read the best :D
