TheTommyD 103 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 I've noticed quite a few members like to post their favourite songs on Cerb. Music and the words can mean a lot to different people. It's a way to express the way we feel and think about ourselves and the world around us. What's you're favorite verse, line? We all (I) have some. Think about it. Here's one of my favorite lyrics for Cerb> You're grown (you're grown up), so grown (so grown up) Now I must say more than ever, come on Eileen Too-ra-loo-ra, too-ra-loo-rye-aye We can sing just like our fathers Come on Eileen, oh, I swear (well, he means) At this moment, you mean everything You in that dress, my thoughts, I confess Verge on dirty, ah come on Eileen. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=jW_aWY5PubI And another: In touch with the ground I'm on the hunt I'm after you Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd And I'm hungry like the wolf Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme I'm on the hunt I'm after you Mouth is alive with juices like wine And I'm hungry like the wolf http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv6Cr5LZStE What's your's? Kyra.Graves 23779 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Hmmm... changes a lot with my mood, I'm always updating the songs in my sig. because of that. Almost anything by Ben Harper would make the list. On the lyrical/song content alone I'd probably go with Richest Man in Babylon by Thievery Corporation and to be a little less political I'd say Poe, Beautiful Girl Richest Man in Babylon There is no quidance in your kingdom Your wicked walk in Babylon There is no wisdom to your freedom The richest man in babylon Your beggars sleep outside your doorway Your prophets leave to wonder on You fall asleep at night with worry The saddest man in Babylon The wicked stench of exploitation Hangs in the air and lingers on Beneath the praise and admiration The weakest man in Babylon There is no hope left in your kingdom Your servants have burned all their songs Nobody here remembers freedom The richest man in Babylon (cont...) Beautiful Girl Beautiful girl, You mustve been a beautiful baby too Beautiful woman, You mustve had your moments inside the sun Beautiful girl Beautiful stranger Why do you have to walk with your head hung low Beautiful girl Your eyes are mockingbirds inside a guilded cage Your lifes a silent movie that I havent heard for ages Tell me everything, someones gotta hear this Beautiful thing Beautiful mother, frozen in ice Ive waiting for you to grow for my whole life Beautiful girl Your eyes are mockingbirds inside a guilded cage Your lifes a silent movie that I havent heard for ages Tell me everything, someones gotta hear this Beautiful thing (so beautiful)
YoungStud 468 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) Musicians often have long road trips which provide them with more time on their hands that they really need or want. That's why, if they travel in groups, they always know all the best jokes. And have time to make up "alternative" lyrics to many songs. In that vein, overheard from a musician friend of mine, with apologies to Smokie Robinson and his great version of Track of My Tears: "Please sit on my face, so my lips can trace, a little bit closer, the crack of your rear." I believe it goes on from there, but you get the idea, and that's all I can remember. (Try singing along with those lyrics the next time you have a Karaoke night. lol) Smokie's original: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=9MGP6vFMdE8 And an AbFab concert version with Annie Lennox, whom I've always considered one of the hottest women in rock. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=DF9xfx-W_xA&NR=1 (Annie can sit on my face anytime.) "Sit on my Face" by Monty Python... Sit on my face and tell me that you love me I'll sit on your face and tell you I love you too I love to hear you oralise When I'm between your thighs You blow me away Sit on my face and let my lips embrace you I'll sit on your face and then I'll love you truly Life can be fine if we both sixty-nine If we sit on our faces In all sorts of places And play till we're blown away. YoungStud 468 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 And for those "cruising the track", as client or provider, with a certain sense of desperation, in whatever literal or metaphorical sense you may have done - or still do - that: I'm riding down Kingsley, figuring I'll get a drink I turn the radio up loud, so I don't have to think, I take her to the floor, looking for a moment when the world seems right, And I tear into the guts, of something in the night. You're born with nothing, and better off that way, Soon as you've got something they send someone to try and take it away, You can ride this road 'till dawn, without another human being in sight, Just kids wasted on something in the night. Nothing is forgotten or forgiven, when it's your last time around, I got enough stuff running 'round my head That I just can't live down When we found the things we loved, They were crushed and dying in the dirt. We tried to pick up the pieces, And get away without getting hurt, But they caught us at the state line, And burned our cars in one last fight, And left us running burned and blind, Chasing something in the night. ILike2Dine 100 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Depends on the day, or time of day, of course, but one of the perennial favourites would have to be Stan Rogers, Mary Ellen Carter. Particularly the very end: "And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again. Rise again, rise again - though your heart it be broken And life about to end No matter what you've lost, be it a home, a love, a friend. Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again." Pretty much anything by Meatloaf for the musical one-liners, though. "can't you see my faded Levis bursting apart" :D
rickoshadows 937 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Over the last year or so, Mad World by Gary Jules has always kind of been at the edge of my conscience. I first noticed the song when it was used in a video game advertisement and I thought it sounded pretty cool although perhaps the juxtaposition with the scenes of viloence in the add helped to make the impact it did. However, I was curious enough to look it up and it made even more of an impression. Mad World Gary Jules (cover of Tears for Fears) All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Mad world Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday And I feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson Look right through me, look right through me And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles It's a very, very Mad World Mad World Enlarging your world Mad World. I once used it for a fundraiser video for an animal shelter and it had amazing impact, lyrically it's brilliant yet so depressing. Gotta love Tears for Fears for that. By the way this is the original video for the Gary Jules version of the song, not the movie promo one (Donnie Darko).

rick_falcon 911 Report post Posted January 20, 2009 Here is a great song by Lou Reed but if you read the lyrics, I admit that it's freaky! But the song sure has an engaging beat: "Holly came from miami f.l.a. Hitch-hiked her way across the u.s.a. Plucked her eyebrows on the way Shaved her leg and then he was a she She says, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side Said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side Candy came from out on the island In the backroom she was everybodys darling But she never lost her head Even when she was given head She says, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side Said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side And the coloured girls go Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo..." RubJunky 1954 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Music has always played a huge part in my life and I can fill this thread with ectabites but for the sane I will only post snippits of my favorite songs... you guess the rest... ...................................... Down on this killing floor. Squeeze me baby, till the juice runs down my leg, The way you squeeze my lemon, Im gonna fall right out of bed, yeah. ....................................... And you can see them there, On Sunday morning They stand up and sing about what it's like up there They call it paradise I don't know why You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye ........................................ It's a cool, sweet kinda-place where the copters won't spot it and I destroyed the map, I even thought I forgot it, however, every-day I'm dumping the body. It'd be better for us if you don't understand. It'd be better for me if you don't understand ......................................... walk past damaged goods and ugly trends past a strawman making a purchase downtown where the river bends they're just waiting for you to resurface take a look at this photograph clearly his teeth were bared he coulda been yawning or snarling the story was never clear .......................................... And the men who hold high places Must be the ones who start To mold a new reality Closer to the heart Closer to the heart The blacksmith and the artist Reflect it in their art They forge their creativity Closer to the heart Closer to the heart and the best song to get dirty with is.....(just my opinion) Is love so fragile... And the heart so hollow Shatter with words... Impossible to follow Youre saying Im fragile... I try not to be I search only... for something I cant see I have my own life... and I am stronger Than you know But I carry this feeling When you walked into my house That you wont be walking out the door Still I carry this feeling When you walked into my house That you wont be walking out the door Lovers forever... face to face My city or mountains Stay with me stay I need you to love me I need you today Give to me your leather... Take from me... my lace You in the moonlight With your sleepy eyes Could you ever love a man like me And you were right When I walked into your house I knew Id never want to leave Sometimes Im a strong man Sometimes cold and scared And sometimes I cry But that time I saw you I knew with you to light my nights Somehow Id get by First time I saw you I knew with you to light my nights Somehow I would get by Lovers forever... face to face My city or mountains Stay with me stay I need you to love me I need you today Give to me your leather... Take from me... my lace Lovers forever... face to face My city or mountains Stay with me stay I need you to love me I need you to stay Give to me your leather Take from me... my lace Take from me... my lace Take from me... my lace
