Reuben Sandwich 13841 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Levon Helm has passed on after 71 memorable years. Looks like his last trip over this mountain and gets to see his Bessie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uydVGUrj-m8&feature=related

billybob 20128 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, I just found out today, but all the members of The Band were Canadian.
Guest dame*****n09* Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Saw Levon at the F-town Harvest Festival last year. His voice didn't make it through the night, but his personality sure did. Pure grit and spirit, and great performer.
mrrnice2 157005 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Music From Big Pink was my selection for an all time favorite album. Levon Helm was a huge part of The Band. Sad to hear of his loss.
Reuben Sandwich 13841 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, I just found out today, but all the members of The Band were Canadian. All except Levon, who was from Arkansas. He came up to Canada with Ronnie Hawkins and the rest of the later Band members all worked for Hawkins before splitting off on their own. Philander39 3705 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 I saw Levon Helm when he played the Ottawa Folkfest last summer. Great show. He paced himself that night so his voice held up for the whole show including a fantastic encore. Really happy that I was able to see one of the key voices of my childhood. My dad only allowed two kinds of music to be played in the truck, the garage and the barn - Country or Western. The Band was the exception to the rule. Evertime I hear Levon's voice, I smell hay or gasoline.
